Having removed the prop on my old freeby 'cause of a knacked VCU i know how to do it

but

my newer one is a bit more posh than the old tractor in that it is an automatic with HDC and TC etc

so is it just a question of un bolt the prop or do I have to do something different to stop the Traction controle going mad and the auto box geting upset?

I know winter is near but when it gets to May time i think it might be time to go back to 2WD for the summer fual saving costs

It wont be any different to your old model, just take to off.

TC and auto box wont go mad but you might want to put it back on for the winter in case you get stuck in snow or summat.

thought that may be the case but just wasnt to sure about the Traction control as to if to disconect it

the prop is on at the moment and I am looking at taking it off after the winter

cheers

Hi m8,
i took mine off on my TD4 and it drove alot better. The only prob is that it wont pass an mot like it and also the fact that if you get stuck with winter coming on how r u going to feel when a mini or such like has to get u out.Its such a shame as they r so much better to drive with the rear prop off.Still such is life.

Propshaft doesn't come into the MOT, driveshafts do though, purely because if the boots split, they flick grease onto the brakes.

Prop can be F****ed and falling off and they can't fail it, only advise.

hi, im intrested to know what difference there is with the prop off, anyone got some figures regarding mpg , and what other pros, cons etc,

i don't know how it goes 4wd as our flander had the prop missing.
but it goes ok 2wd, i'll let you know when i get stuck in the snow!

cheers.............Ken

We removed our propshaft temporarily whilst waiting for some other replacement parts.

The handling and balance of the vehicle changed significantly and we were desperate to get it back!

Not to put too fine a point on it - I have been told by Land Rover (Frank Ogg & Son) that it would be as the car in "Not Complete". I would like to have some backup in case it was failed for that reason.

Thanks

I think you ought to ask them to show you the relevant passage in the MOT manual. - wot do they consider "Not complete" - a switch missing? - not OEM brake shoes? a prop shaft missing? - I think they mite be pullin yo plonker!
