Hey Guys
Sorry if this is a bit of a special question but, I have an 1984 2.5 na 90 and would like to get some more power on a budget now ive been offered a 2.5t head and turbo complete could I fit this to my bottom end and if so would there be anything else I would need?.
Thank you

Exhaust downpipe is different IIRC. tubo manifold is the same as non turbo manifold.

But it won't be a cheap option when you destroy the NA engine cos it can't cope with the turbo.

Just get the 2.5na in good fettle, tweak the fuel injector pump timing and live with it while you save up for a 200tdi.

Your just going to blow your engine. If the bottom end was in excellent condition it would be ok prob for a bit, but I think your just opening a can of worms.

Just FYI you would also need the TD exhaust gubbins and fuel injector pump

As mentioned above, the original valves weren't up to the increased heat/pressure. You could end up with no engine at all.
Some of the guys on here seem to be getting reasonable power from their 2.5n/a - make sure the tappets and timing are well adjusted, and the injectors are all working ok.

There's nowt wrong with a N/A!

If it's set up right and looked after you should get a good top speed (70mph+), reasonable economy (25mpg+), and a fairly quiet engine!

What you will not get is anything like the acceleration expected from one with a turbo!

As with anything, if you look after everything well, and don't expect sports car performance, it will last you for years!

Mine is a 1990 110 Hard Top, and I used to do a 150 mile round trip daily commute, and she never missed a beat!

Had a new gasket/head skim on my 2.5 n/a and then it did 50 mph, as it does now. How do i "tweek" the fuel injector pump....not heard of this, as i thought n/a were untwekable :)

it was more the pistons that couldnt cope ,till they coated them

It's dead easy if you know what does what, although it does take a bit of time and you should get at least 70mph and around 30mpg.

It is all down to experience and practice! ;););)

Hello old sea dog, can you give me an idea so I can pass it onto my Landrover guru... I am taking the 2.5 n/a on several long trips in convoy style and could do with max speed going up to 60(not 50 as it is now)
Cheers

I suggest that you take it to someone who knows what they are doing.

Surely there is a doozil specialist in your part of the world?

The trouble is that ignorance can screw up the pump and timing to the extent that it knackers your engine, and I ain't prepared to take any responsibility for that!

I have talked a couple of people through this over very long phone calls, and have had quite a number turn up here to have it done.

As I said, if you don't know what each bit does, then leave well alone!

I have no idea what your personal capabilities are, or even if you have a decent tool set and can tell the difference between an M8 and an M10 thread and the sizes of spanner that will fit.

Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear.

It's to pass onto someone who does, ie my guru. He can read your instructions and go from there. 50 mph is way to slow, but I love the simplicity of the n/a.
Cheers,
Unionjak

Hope it works out OK.

Less than 1/4 turn on each, and make sure that the injector pipes are loose before adjusting the pump body, otherwise you could crack a pipe!

Slowly and gently does it.
