I am after some spot lights to mount on the front of me disco, I don't have a nudge bar so they will need to be mounted on the bumper I have seen some with this done but everywhere I look they are ridiculous prices.
so can anyone recomment some reasonably priced lights, oh and I don't want chrome just black plastic, and I don't want these led rim things either, oh and about 8" ones would be cool.
anyone any ideas
cheers

Spot lights are like anything else, you get what you pay for tbh. I would advise buying a decent set and be done with it, and if im honest I think 8" lights look to big on the front of a Disco, 6" is a better size.

I've got Hella Comet 500's on the RR, used em on loads of cars with no complaints. In fact I've got two sets, one drivers and one fogs, then if need be I can just change the reflectors dependant on conditions.

I would think that 8" lights will be too deep for a straight bumper mount?

Shallow lights like the Hella Comet, Hella 1000 or Cibie Oscar+ are smaller in diameter and could well go on without problem.

For 8", I had Hella 2000's on my last D1 as below but they needed a light bar to fit properly.

i got the lamps that came with mine, they are the origonal landrover ones, i just bolted them onto my bumper wen i took the nudge bar off. im sure there are some on ebay

I'm about to order a set of 100W long range 8" Wipac's and a mounting bar same as in this photo.
I'm not sure just how good they will be but Wipac used to be reasonable and at around £45 a pair good value.
I've had Cibie on other vehicles but cost and the potential for loss due to theft or damage has put me off a bit. They are good though.
My local landi repair shop suggested a HID kit or upgraded OE headlight bulb replacement but TBH I think they look so much better with a big set of spots on the front.

The bar came from one of the regular parts suppliers, sorry can't remember which one. It's made by Simbar in Bristol and was listed for a D2 but as you can see, it fit's fine.

Beware of the clear lenses, they throw a pencil beam and if not adjusted bang on, are hopeless. Drive is a more useable pattern IMHO!

going off on a tangent - anyone got any of the X-eng Xlites?

They'd be mugs if they have. All they are is a bit of ally tubing with a jubilee clip on em and a household 12v halogen lamp in em. and have you seen the fooking price of em??? I know someone in Hull that had 6 fitted and they were ****e.

Please expand, Pikey - apart from the cost (wow :() whay is wrong with using 55w halogen units as auto lights. I believe they do 2 types - spot and wide beam - unlikely in a household environment to need fog lamps in yo kitchen - infra red smoke lights, maybe, but not fog lamps. Am curious as to why you think they are no good, or are you not knocking the principle - just the quality and price?

bulb life crap, try them in a kitchen and they are very directional and plain ****e

Just the price mainly. given that you could just buy a pair from B&Q for less than a tenner.

bulb life crap

is that based on fact - impirical data - or a guess? Do X-eng actually use household lights - i doubt it?

I do like the idea tho, of a small 55w unit - it looks quite neat and can be fitted easily to the front of most vehicles.

Halogen 12 volt 35 watt: 50mm, GX 5.3, GU 5.3

Ask them why
Bulb and reflector are a single 'sealed' unit. When you change a bulb, you replace the glass lens and reflector at the same time. Yet, you can pick up a replacement bulb from a hardware store for as little as £1.00.

Commercial/domestic -either way the bulb life is crap, in fireproof vented downlight or shower light they are crap life span

try bouncing them round and heat in enclosed space in summer night=plain ****e

armed response cars had 2 in boot, but as a long spot -no good

Yup they just use a std household bulb they even use this as a selling point as it's easy to get a replacement bulb.
