can anyone recommend some spotlights

erm - i was asking you - coz yu said they had a short life. As they offer two types - spot and fog - i wonder how they use household units? I aint saying they arent crap, but yu stated a short life, so i wondered on wot you based that statement.... I was just trying to ascertain qualified facts, rather than speculation.
 
One thing to consider is, most of the spotties are not sealed, even the good expensive ones and they all turn to sh1t after a couple of imersions, I've had Cibie Oscars, Hella, Bosch, etc, and all of their reflectors discolour and oxidise and that's the end of them. I bought some cheap 51/4" 150w sealed beam type (aka, Aircraft Landing Lights now and am very happy with them, more than enough light out in front and heaps of spread. Best part cost me around $60- Aus.

Bulb and reflector are a single 'sealed' unit. When you change a bulb, you replace the glass lens and reflector at the same time. Yet, you can pick up a replacement bulb from a hardware store for as little as £1.00.

and nothing to stop water etc hitting the bulb So wonder what effect that will have on a redhot bulb. Pop springs to mind.

Dunno but the lad in Hull had one on each side of his rollcage for side illumination and 4 on front Must say the side lamp, bulbs lasted longer than the front bulbs. Probably cos they get less water on em. Been pointed downwards more then the front ones and less rain over spray etc getting to them.
 
Card from a government recognised scheme-scope all electrical.
replacing them regularly at sports centres, loads of the things
very very directional. try there mains cousin gu 10 as well =crap
 
cibie osca + are good and light force 140 are as good but either are not cheap
i have both but have chosen to use the light force more beam pat than flood (as the cibie osca+ are flood )

Can anyone cast a decent opinion on these LED spotlights for me

£100 for lights that are apparently the same as a 135w spots, and are meant to last 25,000 hours, 10 times longer than standard ones ( I did ask the seller since the details weren't listed )

Not seen these working so personal thoughts, to think about, with your own use needed to be taken into account

whats the pattern like?
135W spots they may be but if the pattern is wrong they could be worse than useless, what penetration do they manage?

LED's do last longer and are more resilient to vibration knocks etc
the posting does say they are for roof bars, so may not be right for driving, they are illegal for road use any way so that may not be an issue, off roading etc they may be OK

They will take less power so you should be able to turn them on and use them without engine running

from the picture I would guess that they are more flood / fog than spot the reflectors will not throw light too far

You have Hella's or the nighbreakers? If so I didn't know you could get nighbreakers in 80w :eek: But mine are all 55w so they are slightly less illegal, but I know everyone will say that auxiliary lights are illegal, but I have a switch to turn them off with the main beam :D

Posting does say they are for an a-bar too, which the seller confirmed in a pm
will ask about pattern and penetration and let you know

I've spent hours searching but cant seem to come to any conclusions about which lights will work best on the roofbar namely giving good distance illumination and not just lighting up the bonnet! Oh and dont cost the earth.

Is something like this any good to bring the cables through the roof from the light bar?

Haven't purchased any lights for the Disco yet BUT I have lights on my BMW Adventure. I need neat items that were able to pack a punch well above their size. Eventually went for Hella FF-50's. Oval shape with clear lenses and a low profile when mounted. Good distance at night. Got them off eBay for about £40 delivered from a seller in Germany.

I will be having these on the roof bar whethe time comes.

As for x-eng xlites, what a great idea but ultimately a crock of **** if you want great spotlights. However if you just need some extra illumination up front then I suppose they are ok. Saying that I wouldn't have them.
