Hey guys,

It’s been so long since I have had to post on here..... mainly due to my nice new chassis being built incorrectly, so I had to strip it all back down and start again (sole destroying), on top of that I had my first child and spare time became a thing of the past.....

Fast forward and here I am again, this time I have painted the chassis using the same technique as from Frost, and to be honest I like the finish.

The engine and gearbox is now in as is the rad, intercooler etc, I had issues with the fuel and took some advice off here which I should of done ages ago and saved myself some grief.

There is some stuff I’m still not sure of like, what sits above this alternator where the four screws are? (I know that silicone pipe was in the wrong place, I was just experimenting with pipe work)

Also for the pipes that come from the cyclone breather can I just use normal braided oil hose, or is there a reason I have to spend out?

Could be wrong here, alternator mount for disco lump?
If not sure check the engine number, I cant remember of the top of my head whats what but google will tell you 11/12L?

Any old pipe so long as its oil resistant will be fine for the cyclone, the original stuff is stupid expensive, I actually used heater hose for the hose from the cyclone to the air filter on my 90 a few years back and its still okay, but that may just be a fluke.

Boat engine has that clear pipe as the breather hose, not the cheap braided crap, but it is clear looks same dia as the tdi as well, its gong hard but is 20 yrs old!

Thanks Lynall,

That’s an interesting theory, but one I won’t be able to confirm as I bought this engine from a breakers yard from a stolen and recovered unit (Licensed may I add) but I’m 95% sure it’s from a defender...... I do hope it is

Although everything I have bought so far seems to be right for it, and the turbo is in the right place for a defender one (200tdi sits at the top).

I couldn’t believe the price of that pipe, so I’m glad you confirmed what I initially thought... the ones from the heater matrix seems to be worse, one of those is £80 not a chance of me paying that!

Ahh brilliant, thank you so much..... and I must apologise for ignoring your advice about the sedimentor, turns out you were right to advise to bypass it..... If I had listened to you I would have been about £50 better off
