Can a DSE or 300TDi run on veggie oil?

So you've got to filter it first? And let it stand??
My plan was to buy the large SVO containers from Costco/Makro used in idustrial kitchens, and mix it with the diesel to a 50:50 ratio (although was gonna start with just 25% diesel to start with).
Obviously need a car first, but more than likely will be a 300Tdi, probably an RRC, maybe a Disco 1.

only WVO needs filtering etc, SVO can be used straight out of the bottle/container.

What is needed is a way of taking the dye out of Red Diesel! I usually have a couple of thousand litres in stock.

There is a way of doing it... a few that might just work and a few that are just plain bonkers, have you tried cutting the lid off the top of a 205 ltr steel drum then weilding it 8 inches down the barrel with holes drilled in it... very very teeny weeny holes... not forgetting to fit a tap 8 inches from the bottom... then filling the top end with new cat litter... then pouring red diesel in and letting it slowly drain away into the bottom of the drum... not that this is what i do at the boat yard as this would be very illigal
ANOTHER way is to buy foreighn vat fuel that is blue (again died for easy detection) then mixing it with our red diesel, it makes it go clear and for this reason you cant get the foreighn vat free fuel over here.

Tried various filters, none of them have worked. Not sure if cat litter would be any different.???

Im not sure of the real name for the stuff, its like cat litter, think it might be called FULLERS EARTH. Let me no how you get on and il keep you informed in my experiments

It's used for central heating in France and I also have a stock for my digger and tractor. Trouble is the rural gendarmes regularly check cars and vans for illegal use of red diesel, so can't take the chance.

Sorry all was meaning to say 110 Defender with 162,000 started at minus 4 on 50/50 svo diesel no worries.
I would not recommend anyone to try this, my personal choice. If it fails I pay, but will keep you all up to date.
That said, all my reasearch says ok at 50/50.

like I said in my first post I've run all winter right through the very cold weather on a 60/40 wvo/derv mix with a little petrol added as a thinner with no probs at all and as the weather is warming up the oil percentage goes up gradually until the summer time when I run 95/5 mix of wvo/unleaded.
I love it when I'm only paying for 5% of my fuel and it's completely legal

BMW M51 engines run on damn nearly anything that burns,except for Greek marine fuel with 10 % water, mine do. You need to add a bit of oil occasionally to lubricate the pump. Any Ethanol additives are to be avoided as they eat rubber fuel pipes and dowty washer rubbers.

Old farmer fried told me years ago that he filtered it through a loaf of bread ! Said he dug a hole out of the top and just poured it through.
No idea if it works or if he had maybe been drinking the stuff.

Isn't there some tax issue with using veg oil depending on the amount? I was toying with the idea of starting on straight diesel and running veg oil through a heater to lower the viscosity to resemble diesel. I have heard of white spirit being used as a thinner. Not sure of the % How much petrol is used?

in Indonesia Borneo and other tropical countries jungle has been ripped out and there are a lot of palm oil trees but Ive heard that palm oil is not suitable for running diesels on anyone know anything about it?

Here in France, they are growing acre upon acre of colza (rape seed) and a refinery has just been built in the next village to produce biodiesel. It's illegal to use it in road vehicles in France (apart from buses and government vehicles), so it's all exported to Germany by road or rail! Very green NOT.

Doesn't matter if you take the dye out of it as they don't dip tanks looking for colour anymore, samples are taken from the engine and put through an analyser than detects the chemical marker put in red diesel. So simply don't do it if you want to keep your vehicle.
2500l per year tax free allowance using veg oil but you have to register and keep basic records of how much you use and don't use white spirit to thin veg it's not allowed to be used as road fuel, use unleaded to thin it.
The smell of white spirit is probably from the methanol used to make bio.
Don't go near it, as palm oil sets solid at the meerest hint of cold, so imagine what it will do to your fuel system.
