i've at last made some progress with me landy and have stripped down me replacement Essex V6 engine that will one day (maybe even this year!!) go into me series 3. the v6 looks pretty good inside and most of the bearings and oil seals looked reasonably new!! but i've noticed a bit of a scar in the 2nd camshaft bearing and i'd like to get it sorted now rather then when i'm stuck somewhere with a burst camshaft!

accordin to me 1972 ford consul/granada haynes book of lies replacing this bearing should be done by "your local ford dealer" but i'd like to know if this is possible for the average pleb in his shed to sort it.... or if not, who can!!

some pic's, cos everyone likes pic's!!!

right enough it'd be a right bastard to get out/in but i'm daft enough to try it!! :D

i will try and find my ford zephyr /zodiac workshop manwell over the weekend and look fur ya. But lookin at it , i reckons yu are ok - i reckon a bit of crap got in the oilway - yu still have a huge bearing surface and it wont cause yu any probs. Yu asked on a ford forum?

fookin ell so it is!

cheer's daft! my haynes just say it should be done by the profesional's so dont try it!!

reet i'm off to get some tins oot the fridge, cheers!!

lookin at it further - it aint been gouged out - it has fallen out - it is a sintered whitemetal bearing and a small section hasnt bonded to the steel liner. aint no prob - yu cud argue its even better coz oil will sit in there and lubricate that bearing surface beta.
