Hi all. I’ve been chasing a low oil pressure problem for a while and have discovered damage on the number 4 camshaft bearing. Having read lots of helpful threads on here I’m fairly certain this is the problem but if anyone can throw any light on it I’d be grateful. Picture attached, it’s a 200tdi disco engine. Many thanks

It looks to me like the edge of the bearing is all chewed up and damaged. You have to zoom in a bit

It looks really big, but I think that must be because it's a close up picture with not a lot of obvious things to reference it with.
Are you referring to this “damage” seen here on a zoomed in image of the bearing?

If so, that looks like one of 2 things has happened.
First, and possibly the most likely, the cowboys who cast the bearing didn’t bother cleaning the Babbitt from the edge while machining.
Second, the camshaft has generated enough heat to melt the Babbitt and cause it. I’m not saying this isn’t possible, but knowing the casting temps of a few Babbitt metals as being 380-450, I wouldn’t expect that to happen.
