Hi - we're heading from London to Cape Town in August, down the West coast and trying to work out what we should do about gas for cooking (4 people). We'll be in Europe for a couple of months followed by 12-ish in Africa. Keen on gas rather than fuel and have a 2 x 2 plate stoves which we'd need to connect to a gas bottle of sorts, interchangeably.

I believe Camping Gas are refillable (or rather, exchangeable) in Europe but not sure about Africa.

Anyone got any useful advice re Africa and types of gas available etc?

Thanks - Bridge

Good Luck with the trip!

You will only get Camping Gaz in Europe, and possibly a few North African countries.

In Central and Southern Africa you will only get Cadac, a South Africa Product.

Options are get Camping Gaz or Calor here, and an adaptor so you can fill it from a petrol station autogas pump. You need to do some research to see what adaptors you need, because there are different kinds of autogas nozzles depending on where you, but ebay is a good place to get them.

If that doesn't work out, just pick up a new Cadac bottle and regulator when you can't fill your existing one, and change it over, in the grand scheme of an Africa trip it's not a big deal really ;)

A belated thank you for the advice - we've gone with Camping Gas and will just see how works out. As you said, not a biggie in the grand scheme of an Africa trip - we'll make a plan :)
