Cambelts???

Is there any cambelts that I should stay away from? Mine snapped today! Also is it worth buying all the tensioners?

If it snapped I'd be more interested in looking at what damage its caused first before I think about fitting a new one

From what i've heard, dayco belts are good and they're the ones that paddocks sell. I have just recently put one on my rebuild project. Depending on how often the belt is changed and how many miles from the last ones depends on whether you think the tensioner and idler need doing, but in my opinion, I'd do it anyway.

Doesn't matter what damage is caused! It will always need a new belt lol, and I've already got some pushrods and if it needs valves I've got a head I can chuck on, just didn't want to buy a ****ty belt and have to do it again next week lol!
And just found a dayco kit for £26!

Best guide I found was trailerfitterstoolbox on youtube, gives you lots of helpful tips and I think there's a guide for the 300tdi. There's definitely one for the 200.

if tis a 300, has it had the modification, it guided crank pulley, if not do that, and replace the guided idler and the tensioner.
the early 300 had a idler guide that had a tendancy to shred the side of the belt, hence the change. full kit with modified oem pully, oem tensioner and idler and dayco belt was about £80 last summer, watch out for non oem crank pulleys, the guides are welded on, not machined in.
300 is easier than the 200, the waterpump doesnt have to come off

Well removed it all tonight after work only got about an hour of light but got it all off! Looks like I might have been very lucky. The belt was still in one piece just! There was a lot of teeth missing though and it hasn't broke any of the rockers and non of the pushrods look bent either, I have a set of rods though so I'm goner put em in anyway!
Does anybody know what the clearance is for the rockers?
I've been told .20 but thought if check! And I'll look at the sprocket in the morning!

It's 0.20mm for a 200tdi so can't imagine yours would be any different

i fitted a dayco and continental belts in the past to a large variety of cars and not had a problem.

i would advise change all the tensioners etc when you do the belt

Hi Danny,

good work, you got the old style tensioner and crank pulley on there. Are you changing it for the new style?

where did you pick up the full kit for 30 notes, sounds like a bargain.
