Yesterday I finally plucked up the courage to do my cam belt, I bought the full kit from island 4x4 inc the new oil seals for the crank etc.

Had to use the method of using a breaker bar under the chassis to undo the crank nut and that worked a treat, I also bought a timing pin kit with the pullers etc required to do the job.

The main crank pulley just pulled off by hand. Then I removed the timing cover etc and found the puller bolts I had were 8mm and did not fit the 5mm holes in the crank pulley? I got a lever behind it and gentle tapping with a hammer and thankfully it slid off, I was tempted to leave it on but my crank oil seal was leaking so it had to come off.

The rest of the job went quite sweet, but being an EDC auto I had not been able to lock the crank with the kit I had, so I had to be extremely carefully about keeping it in the right position with the keyway at dead 12 o’clock .

Got it all back together and it was still spot on timing wise, my problem then was how the hell do I do the crank bolt back up as tight as it needs to be? I covered the bolt in blue loctite and did it up as tight as I could with a wood chisel across the pulley bolts jamming it.

She started straight up and is running fine, but the tightness of that crank bolt is on my mind! I will be keeping a check on it for a while in case in comes loose.

I put mine in fifth gear with the handbrake on.

The pulley goes round a bit before you can get a good pull on it but I managed with this method and a scaffold bar with the 200.
Not so fussy with the 300 just as tight as I could with breaker bar,

Both been ok:)

Cant do that with an automatic :( may try the strap as mentioned above though if it shows a sign of coming loose. have left the fan off for now so I can keep an eye on it.
