Thanks for your input Rasheed,i will try it later,i have already changed the batterys,i know i have to turn it to the left 4 times to start with because i had to do it when i changed the car battery last year and the indicators flashed ok then, perhaps this is an indication that it needs a resink, has anybody elts had this ?
Would this have any effect on the fob not working?? and red light not flashing as it all packed up the same day and was working fine till then.

Thanks guys

If you know you have the correct eka procedure and it is now not working and it did before ,then the door lock microswitches must be suspect.
There are basically two types of resync.ie Fob resync after changing fob or vehicle battery/s or when receiving a new fob. After doing this the fob will unlock/lock doors reset alarm and the BECM will send the stored engine ecm code to the engine ecu to tell it to start the engine.

The second is when the Becm "forgets "the engine ecu security code. The engine will not start,no message centre error messages are displayed.A fob that is synced will still work and unlock/lock doors reset alarm.
In these circumstances you need testbook,Blackbox syncmate, nanocom etc to resync the link between the Becm and the engine ecu before the engine will start.

John/Rasheed

Put the key in the door and unlocked the door, all the doors unlocked and the interior light comes on,put the key in and turned to position 2 no check engine light on dash, turned to position 3 and came up "engine disabled" beep beep beep press remote beep beep beep, turned it off and pulled the key out and started stripping the door down.Done a continuaty check on the microswitch 10 times on lock/unlock and 10 times it came up good so that rules that out.

So if the key unlocks all the car does that mean it is in sync with the car ? its looking like the BECM needs a resync then ? will that make the keyfob work again as it all went wrong the same time.

Thanks Kaz

Think when it went, beep beep beep "Press remote" beep beep beep, you should have pressed remote to sync fob. Or is it not working can't remember? It may have lost sync, ECM has a code enbedded in it. Maybe say 1234, that code is also in BECM, if the BECM has been corrupted and the code has changed to something else, EG 0123. Because when you switch on the codes do not tally, the engine is disabled. This is the famous handshake refered to. You need to borrow a Syncmate off someone for your year of car.

As yours is a Gems engine ecu ,the check engine light should come on (if the bulb is ok) when you turn the key to position 2 in the ignition. If it does not illuminate then your Becm to engine ecu has lost sync. You will need the Blackbox syncmate or such like to resync the two.

are you now using the new key or the old? does the red light in the fob come on when you press the buttons? if you have a working fob and the eka is unlocking the car and disabling the alarm but not the engine one last thing you can try to do before resynching the BECM and ECU is to resync the fob. Your door micro switch is fine so put key in lock, turn to lock while pressing lock on fob, then turn key to unlock while pressing unlock on fob. doors should now lock and unlock with the remote and not need the EKA. Now try starting it. No luck then try again and (this bit is slightly voodoo witchcraft as I don't know the scientific basis for it) as you turn the key in the ignition press unlock on the fob as well. I swear it has worked but only sometimes and I don't know if this is what worked or something else that happened in the background I wasn't aware of! :p

John/Rasheed ITS WORKING :)

When i pulled up behind the Rangie tonight i noticed the front end sticking out after being recovered, so i thougth i will roll it back and straighten it up a bit, with the same old key (the new one hasent come yet) i put the key in the door and unlocked it, everything opened, put the key in the ignition and before i turned the key i noticed the red light flashing slowly, thought wot the hell is going on,turned to position 1 still the same, position 2 still the same, position 3 engine disabled press remote, so i did, then the lights started flashing faster on lock/unlock but nothing seemed to happen so i took the key out shut the door and pressed the lock button,IT LOCKED, so i pressed the unlock button and that worked to :) put the key in the ignition turned to position 2 the check engine light comes on and then it started, everything back to normal.:car:
So what was that all about then ???

Its nice to know that there is helpfull people out there

Many thanks for your help lads.

Well done. You say the red light was flashing.Do you mean the LED on the fob or alarm light on the dash.
If it is the fob light then it sounds as if your RR has friendly fob resync via the coil around the ignition switch. If this is the case then yours is probably a 97MY and not 96 as previously stated.
If the fob has started working again it was probably a poor battery contact issue and may happen again.

The poxy thing has stoped working again.so is it the car or the fob, john it was the red light on the fob mate,i have checked the battery connection i lifted the 3 little prongs up and checked the side connection aswel,i hope i get the call about the new fob today.car or fob ?.
