Firstle can I explain I have no experience or knowledge of Landrovers or any other mechanical expreience so here goes.
Last year I went to a small island off St Vincent and met up with a guy who has a land rover 2.25 Petrol Engine Series 3 Lightweight 1976. It has a number of issues and being the good samaritans we are have offered to lend a hand. Obviously the problem he has is getting parts out there. A friend of mine who is a member of Yorks and Lincs 4x4 club is coming to lend a hand and reccomended Amazon 4x4 at Market Rasen for parts but they appear to be closed. We fly out on the 10th January so would like to be organised as soon as possible. Obviously the other problem is weight of the parts because we're flying. I have copied and pasted the email he has sent with the issues he has and would appeciate any feedback, hints and suggestions as to the problems. for example, it has been suggested the issues with the dials etc could bean a complete overhaul of the electrics maybe required due to the age.
Obviously really looking forward to the trip and the challenges ahead and will gladly post some pics of the project.
Here goes!
1) Front drive shaft needs replacing
2) Speedometer cable needs to be replaced
3) Rubbers in the differentials need replacing (leaking oil)
4) Wheel brake pads need to be replaced where necessary
5) The clutch lines need to be checked as the fluid has to be topped up every week or so (might be small leak on one of the clutch hoses)
6) Brake might have similar leak as the pressure can range from soft to extremely hard
7) The water temp, oil pressure including gas gauges don't work
The jeep leans slightly to one side (not sure if a spacer is missing or one of the springs are in wrong)
9) Gearshift springs need replacing
10) The top manifold (the part where the exhaust fits to the engine) needs new bolts and the top part of the exhaust needs to be replaced
