Help - Im in Innsbruck, Austria - my 99 freelander 2.0 Tdi just wont warm up! - changed the thermostat out and still need 10 mins on the autoban before the heater matrix will blow warm!
Anybody got any tips or tricks? In the morning its sometimes -10 or colder so could use a little help!

Thanx for your quick reply - no, the heater matrix is fed off the water coolant system ie. as soon as the engine is running hot the blower should be able to run hotter!!
Any advice?

Will do - I just dont get how a 4WD designed and advertised for hard use and crazy terrain / climates can need all day to get the ice of the front screen!
If the Polizei catch you here driving looking out the window aka. Ace Ventura then the only thing thats going to warm up quick is your funny face as you pay a hefty fine! (no points system here!)
My mates got a 97 Grand Cherokee - its like journey to the center of the earth inside of 5 mins normal driving!
I just read a link suggesting covering at least 50% of the rad to get everything hotter quicker!
What do you think about that?

Have you replaced or just removed the thermostat, if the thermostats stuck open or removed the engine will never worm up as it's circulating cold water all the time. Mine was stuck open (v-cold). Fitted new and worm's up in minuets now :)

Yes - my system has been checked and flushed earlier this year!
Im going to modify my cooling system so that the EGR and heater matrix run in series rather than parallel as they do as standard ( see Q & A heater fix - a most excellent solution!)
Yes - Austria is GREAT - boiling in summer - the BEST snowboarding in winter, fantastic for me motorbike and great safe schools / social system for the family!
Drawback - Used Land rovers are too expensive!

Thanks for your mail! - I replaced the thermo in spring - when the thermo housing was removed the old one was "held" in place by pushing the top plate on the thermo down and twisting two clips into position. I take it this is a "normal" fitted position and not permenantly open??!!
I fitted the new one the way the old thermo was housed!
Would you know if this "fitted" position correct is?...
