HI,
Need to tidy up rear of chassis, and paint a roof rack for our 90 (1989), so will be buying some black paint (more than likely Buzzwelds)
It currently has a white roof, and we were contemplating spraying it black (doing the work myself).
Has anybody used or knows the finish when using Buzzwelds CIO (Chassis In One) for painting something like a roof?
Thanks
Andy

Black roof is going to be sweltering in summer, The roof is white for a reason, more reflective.
And if you insist, use proper primer for alloy, and black paint.

Ive only owned black cars bar my latest 110 but driven many. Black roof white roof doesnt really make a difference imo just open the window sooner lol

The CIO is excellent paint and gives a very smooth very satin/matte finish plus their spray nozzles are excellent on the rattle cans.

If you do spray the roof make sure you key it properly and use a quality acid etch to cover an areas where youve gone thru to bare metal. Most of all make sure the roof is spotlessly clean with some degreaser

As CIO is basically a primer in its self with minor high build properties you shouldnt need an additional primer.

A car is different. It has a good ventilation system. I have driven landrovers with both coloured abd white roofs. Later models dont all have white roofs, but they do have better ventilation systems.

And the CIO paint is good, but it is meant for painting chassis, not roofs.

I agree about the etch primer, etc.

Also, black roofed landys look a bit crap. But that's just my opinion and can be ignored.

Why? Brummies know all about landies, its in their genes. And also a lot about canal boats, although maybe not as much as Black Country folk! :p ;):D

Maybe try it with Plasti dip or rustoleum first? Gives a relatively decent finish and can be pealed off at a later date if needed.

Probably all good on steel. On an alloy roof you might find it peeled itself off. :) Etch is the way to go.

I grew up in a cottage very close to the cut. There were a few abandoned and half submerged barges in those days that we used jump onto from the towpath. Jumping back again was much more difficult. You are right, landies are in our genes, unfortunately so was the allegro, the princess, the maxi, the montego...shall I go on.

Wish I had, Brum is one of my favourite places, the Venice of the North! :)

Some of those boats are still there, and the condition of em hasnt improved!

All those cars were actually ground breaking, and incorporated the ideas that all cars use now. FWD, transverse engines, voice computers etc.

Trouble was, mamnagement was useless, and the unions worse. So the ideas got developed by the Japs and Germans instead of in Brum! :(:(

I know, it was enough to make you weep. British Leyland in Longbridge was one of the best paying employers in Brum, and still the greedy unions wanted more

Yes, in league with the Reds in the Wilson Govt. :( And then Thatcher sorted them out a bit, but made no attempt to address the corrupt and useless management culture! :(:(

We have all been shafted by incompetent politicians.
