Got a high pitch buzz from my speakers (1997 4.6 HSE) in line with the revs of the engine - turn the radio on and it is ok, then after a minute or two, the buzz starts and slowly gets louder, turn the radio off and back on and it goes away for a couple on minutes - do you think it is the head unit or one of the door amps (seems to be coming from both sides though)...

i had a similar problem on my 98 autobiog 4.6 it turned out to be the head unit internal power supply, it started of like yours but got worse over a few months , so i took it out and had the power supply replaced by a local car stereo outlet , been fine ever since :)

Had the head unit refurbished by Clarion, but buzzing still coming from RH Front speakers, intermittantly :( think it could be the door amp.

Any ideas?

It's possible they didn't fix the problem when they refurbished it.

Have you tried thumping the side of the console? If that cures or even affects the buzzing then the problem is still with the head unit.

Have you checked the connections inside the door and at the back of the radio? Could be a bad earth.

Mine's got so bad now that I'm going to have to send mine off soon. Having to thump the console more and more frequently to get rid of the buzzing. And the display doesn't work.

I have just called Clarion, and they were really helpful, their expert on the P38 recons it is a bad connection, either on the back of the head unit or the door amp. Come to think of it, I think it started when I replaced the window actuator - that would make sense. Anyway, the guy at Clarion said don't spend any money, check the wiring, then if need be they can load me a spare amp. I am really impressed with them.

Get your head unit refurbished, I love my aux in cable and the shiney new display - they also disabled the code, so I never have to worry about that again!

Their number is 01285 861861

Thanks for that. Does the aux in cable affect anything else? I'm very tempted as I run my ipod through a casette adaptor currently which works fine, but leaves a wire hanging out the front.

The cable comes out of the back of the head unit, I drilled a hole in the tray above the head unit to bring the jack plug out. With the radio playing I just plugged in my blackberry with an audio track playing and the head unit automatically changed to that - sounded great quality too.
