Hi there, after running Disco's for quite a while I'm thinking about giving myself a treat and buying a Range Rover.

I have a budget of £2000 and from what I've seen I should be able to buy something in the age range of 1994 - 1999.

I have run diesels for ages so that's my comfort zone in terms of home maintenance but in the past had a few v8's which were just gorgeous. Must have LPG as otherwise I just won't be able to enjoy the car.

I don't know the BMW 6 cylinder diesel, is it any good, mpg? refinement?

When buying Discos rust is always an issue, is it the same with Rangy's?

Any and all comments welcome.

I just fancy a bit of luxury 'in me old age'

Rust ain't an issue on p38's- bit of bubbling at the bottom of the lower tailgate & some white dusty bits where alloy meets steel on high milers.

Zillions of threads on 'em.

I'd get a Vogue SE classic or a 3.9 ES disco if I were you ;)

I see you have a 3.5, but if the P38's don't rust, can you help me understand why you reccomend something that does? Don't mean to be arsey, just don't understand?

go for a p38, ..there a great motor but they do have there gremlins..ive had 6 classics and would not go back down that road now,ive also got a disco ES but the ranger is the 1 for me, the mrs drives the disco now lol the bmw is a good lump and is good on mpg but imho it is under powered in std form but a good chip soon changes that for the better power/mpg..
just shop around and make sure you check all electrics work:D

no logic with my landys! :D

A p38 is a gamble if you're on a tight budget that's all. Most old un's will be on their 3-5 owner (most can't afford to look after them properly) and all will be in need of a some putting right- you need to set aside at least 2.5k for a 2k car. And we're talking good ones. There'll be a good few V8's in the ads with a load of k-seal chucked in the coolant

Had 2 p38's- one was a dog, the other I imported from japan which was brilliant- still needed a helluva lot of expensive maintenance though (60 quid a corner airbags, blend motors etc)

My old disco is a much easier & cheaper beast to keep running (n I love it ;) )
