Buying a p38a with problems...?

Good question.. To be honest the last car I had was a civic type r, and haven driven a transit for the last 2 years, I'm only 25 so insurance is pretty costly so bearing all that in mind, I'm willing to pay money to repair but my biggest fear is buying then paying double the price of the car in the first year to repair! I don't do much mileage as I do have a van, it's more for fishing and camping! So yes I'm willing to pay just not thousands at once

I purchased my 95 2.5DT for 2900.00 GBP (over five years ago) the only problem that was evident was the book symbol (Blend motors), within in the first 18/24 months I had spent another 1200/1500 GBP in general major service items (full service, overhauled the cooling system, airbags, blend motors, hi/lo selection motor, air con regas, air con rad/re-gas and brake pump accumulator, plus other small parts.

At the time of purchase working p38's were from around 5000 GBP upwards so in the end I paid about the right price 2900+1500. I do all my own servicing/repairs, the only labour I've paid for is regassing the air con.


And at most I have weekends to repair with a small vennel/driveway to do DIY repairs!

Repairing the vehicle in a small area is more down to planning and having the right tools for the job, space is nice but not necessary. If you buy the vehicle don't rely on it for everyday transport until you've sorted all the problems.

I have a works van, so if my rangie is of the road it doesn't matter, I don't have to reply on it to get me to work.
