Hey, im looking to buy a disco 1 3.9 v8 ina couple of days, but ive no idea what to look out for when viewing one. I know about cars n stuff like that but nothing about disco's. would any one be able to point me to a previous forum link about this as i cannot find anything, or give me a lil advice.

Thanks

Rust is the main problem on the Disco's.

The boot floors go really badly (search for boot floor in the forum and you'll see some 'orrible sights!)

Get one that's not too rotten on the boot floor or one that has been repaired decently.

Also the sills can go pretty bad - check around the sills, underneath and the bottom of the A-pillars, passenger and driver's footwells.

Check the chassis for rust - surface rust is normal but any holes are not good at all.

Wear some old clothes or a boiler suit and have a good poke around under the car, don't be shy!

What's your budget and expectations?

u can av mine fer 2k, 97 mint
if this other one falls through i may be interested.

kool, so mainly rust then. Im looking to spend about 1700ish going to look at 1 in a couple days for 1600 bit of a drive tho so want to make sure im prepared!
thx guys, more info welcome :D

I don't know loads about the 3.9 engines but I think they're pretty reliable. I had a 3.5 efi and it was alright but had the usual Rover oil leakage issues!
Obviously check for the usual signs of head gasket failure (oil in coolant, coolant in oil, mayonaise on oil filler, overheats quickly, runs poorly etc) Make sure it's not rattly on startup when it's cold. Make sure it starts easily again once it's warmed up.
