Ive bid on a 3.5 engine on fleabay... anyone got any suggestions what health checks should be made prior to fitting? Im thinking compression test check rockers and possibly even look down the bores with a mates endoscope... anything else which may be worn?

For sake of a valley gasket I'd check cam and pipes and core plugs on inlet

Yea and i could clean up the carb while its off... just looking into what other parts im gunna need my 300tdi just cracked its head and ive decided a v8 would be more fun... if i can find an insurer thattl take me then ill shoehorn one in

Was everything ok?

Far from it.... engine was in very good condition when i stripped it to check but it has since sucked my bank account dry as its low compression and i want more than 115 HP from it... ive just bought vitesse pistons and a 3.9 cam

im just throwing this out there for you to look into

My brother has just binned his eight for a 300tdi
when he sends the log book off to change the engine type and number the DVLA want to know where the engine is from
to keep track of stolen and stripped motors
