So still looking for a 200tdi engine to replace my 2.5td ( which although leaky and slightly breathy out the rocker still pulls well)

Is there anyone like rpi that do reconditioned engines to buy without trading in an old one like turner engineering

Seen that lad on ebay that does em for 1300 +300 for a non exchange unit but is he any good or is it just a cleaned up block ? What spec are the bits he has put in ? Still doesnt have ancillarys either !

Plenty 300 tdis engines and rotbox discos availible with fair milage - whats involved in that swap ? New chassis mounts new r380 gearbox new tunnel and floors ? - and in which case id go down the galvo chassis and bulkhead route i reckon but then i run the risk of sva dont i as its not a direct chassis swap ? Grey territory no ?

Was planning to do this in the spring but never found an engine or disco i was happy with near me ( ne scotland) galactic milage is silly id rather pay good money for a good engine !

There are plenty of 200/300 engines kicking around. I picked upa Defender 200 engine from eBay. Runs like a sewing machine.

Ok but im not willing to buy blind

I live in aberdeen

I have ebay searches set up to show me any disco or 200tdi engine forsale on ebay within 150 miles of here nothing suitable has come up

I dropped a 200 directly into my 2.5 without any modification. Just has to replace the radiator and air box. Also used the PAS.

Yeah stu thats what i see too !!!! Wondering if its worth while

Curve ball - been offered a 3.5 v8 with an lt85 box cheap like budgie.

According to james id still need props , gear box cross member , floor plates , mod the seat box And weld on new engine mounts - would the engine mounts then be in the right place for a 300tdi if i wanted to swing back to a dieseler later on ? Am i right in thinking the lt85 box is a good move its the r380 that has lubrication problems ?

Vehicle is used for maybe 4k a year and the odd RTV/tyro

you dont have to fit v8 in correct place but it makes all other stuff std so is best in long run ,v8 gear box sit as 300 does lt85 is stronger than r380 but not as easy on gear change as has seperate selector shafts unlike r380 and lt77 single

finally located a donor disco with a known history - two of my mates have owned it but chassis been pretty rotten for some time now.

3.5 on twin SU carbs

Bring it on

(yes its been some time ..... ive just moved house and done alot of renovation - bout time i got a shift on with this though as i miss driving it :( )

well im not really buying for a performance power upgrade although i should see a modest increase over the 19j

looking for robust and easy to work on long term maintainable.

limited electrickery

kept finding 3.9s with no ECUs or ancillarys going for silly money

then thought i struck gold with a v8 auto disco that the owner robbed the axels - despite telling me it was gold plate minted on the phone i arrived and the thing was heamoraging oil out of almost every orriface - looking underside the car and you could see it had been spraying for some time - and very little oil actually showing on the dip stick so i gave it a body swearve
