I've bust the cast alloy bracket that holds the pulley wheel to the serpentine belt at one end and the damper at the other. Problem - can't shift the cap which holds the thing to the assembly. The large hex hole is warn round (not me) and mole grips won't shift it. Any tips please on how to undo it without trashing the whole assembly?
Many thanks

12" stilsons will shift it but you may need a new cap. Island 4x4 have them. You may loosen the boss trying to get the cap off, just screw the lot out and take the cap off in a vice.

Btw breakers are wanting 35 to 45 quid for a bracket and cap - seems a bit over the odds to me.

Cheaper to buy one from island4x4.....I may have a new top as I got a few m47 bmw parts.....and this part is exactley the same on the m47 engine....leave a message if u want it and I'll log on in morning to see...peace out ....

Breakers round here are cheap...jr in paddock wood ,Kent....probably 10-15 quid...there's a few bmw and Vauxhall omegas in there at Mo....I know the one of bmw is diesel....prob a 320d with same bracket...I'll have a look on Tuesday as I'm going down for some bits ...

Thanks for all the help. Got it off this morning. The cap is welded to the boss so will get the whole thing - island do it new for around 65 - so will go down that route. Noticed that grease has come out the back of the water pump - looks like forced out the back of the spindle - it's a new unit - anyone know if that's usual ?
Thanks

Here's a pic of the pump.
