The repairs to my 95 300tdi 110 are coming on well, so far I have changed the cross member, replaced the floor pans, o/s out rigger and the battery tray.

The bulkhead has some rot in a weird place, basically round the bonnet hinge and down to the blank where the speedo cable and wiring goes though. To do this properly and weld a new section of metal in, I will need to take the bonnet hinge off, and reattach after the repairs are complete.

No idea how it is held on or can come off? Any tips!

Cheers

Rivets? Ok that might be easier, I had read a few articles on a Google search that said they were welded on, but I couldn't see how. I think I'll cut out the whole piece along with the hinge out of the bulkhead, and go from there with the patching. Any idea what type of rivets are used?

Hang on here..
The bits that the bonnet sit on, on the bulkhead, are welded on...I...think.
Me cillas too sore to walk and have a look.

Welded on. 1mm disc on the angle grinder will get them off. Probably worth measuring their position from the edge of the bulkhead and from windscreen seal, to be sure that they get welded on in the same place!

What's ya Cilla? Your back? :)
Mine are defo welded on.
Kes86, how can't you tell from yours? Is the rust that bad? o_O

Cheers guys. I would say they look riveted on, there is no obvious welding. The rust is pretty bad, but I was going to try to patch it up, now I have cleaned it up, I think it needs a proper job doing. So I'm looking to put in a full plate, possibly a YRM repair patch.
