I currently have a 300tdi bulkhead, dash and loom fitted to my 1989 110 running a disco 200tdi and lt77 box.

The bulkhead is now beginning to show signs of aging and has developed its first hole on the inside top corner (the part the repair panels do not cover). Although I will repair this at this stage it has got me thinking about other options for the future. I fitted a galv bulkhead to m series a couple of years ago and would like to do the same with the 110. From my experience of getting the series bulkhead supplied and looking at other going through the same thing the best option to keep the vehicle on the road as long as possible (daily drive) will be to buy a second bulkhead and get this repaired and galved before swapping them over and then reselling my current one. This is what I did with the series and did not cause any problems.

My question then is what is the difference between the bulkheads fitted on different models?

I am looking for a straight swap with no modification needed. I know a TDCI bulkhead will not fit but do not know what differences there are between between the td5/3/200tdi and the earlier 110/90 bulkheads I would have had originally. Looking online the descriptions from people selling them seem to be extremely vague and claim they cover all modes. If there are actually no differences this would explain that and give me more confidence in purchasing one to then get galvanised.

Early v8 & 300 tdi are wide on the tunnel
200tdi smaller tunnel.

Top internal where the windscreen air vents are Small & large. But you can just change the trim.
I would go 200/300 tdi to keep simple.

Many thanks, I was hoping to get another 300tdi one to be the same as I have now but a lot of the ones advertised state they will fit all of them, which if there are significant differences should not be the case.

From what you are saying they are backwards compatible but not forwards compatible as the wider tunnel will fit an lt77 but an narrow tunnel will not fit an R380?

Not tried this combo of R380 & narrow tunnel.

Only way would be to measure the bellhousing into the bulkhead.
(Engine would be further forward so gear box/bell housing/tunnel size would not mater is this correct or am I grasping? )
I have a disco on LT77 sat on normal engine mount position & all clearances are fine. Some say the turbo touches the footwell but 2 I have done are fine.
I have a scrap bulkhead here if you need any photos/measurements

See where you say the tunnels are different, I am fairly sure the opening on the actual bulkhead is the same though. Reason I suspect this this is that when I bought my new bulkhead for my 1990 90 with the LT77 narrow tunnel it was a 300tdi B/H - it had the additional holes in the passenger side footwell for A/C etc. and it did not have the big centre hole for the loom - I had to core this out - but my bulkhead to tunnel adaptor lined up and fit perfectly.

Sound right? I am not sure - one of these jobs you do and then sort of forget about!

I am fairly confident that any B/H up till Puma will fit fine - just maybe the loom hole will need drilled.

The 200 one has shorter windscreen vent holes, so, if you get a 200 bulkhead, either cut it to match the wider vents, or use the slimmer vents on your dash.
The 200 one has the fuel filter mounted up by the windscreen, whilst the 300 has it toward the wing, IIRC
The 300 one has a bracket on the passenger footwell, missing on the 200, that, IIRC is somthing to do with the bonnet cable, or heater cable or somthing

Theyre fairly interchangable.

The TD5 (that ive not had any hands on with) mounts the wiper in a different way, im told.

I have noticed that shielder chassis are now manufacturing new galvanised bulkheads. Has anyone looked into these or used them and have an experience with the company?

Don't make the mistake I did when rebuilding for the first time. TD with Def 200 fitted. Round at the local scrapyard I saw a 90 that had been rolled but the bulkhead looked good. A deal was hit and the mint bulkhead was delivered the following morning. I striped everything of it and treated it to several coats of paint. Placed it on the repaired chassis and started with the rebuild. That's strange this doesn't fit or it looks different to the original one........

I'd bought a TD5! Luckily the wiping mechanism had been left on it as the boxes were seized in. Back I went to the scrapyard to buy some dash parts!!!!!!

I used the tunnel housing of the TD bulkhead, insert two rivnuts for the fuel filter and drilled a hole for the wiring.

Ignorance of youth (ok I was 38).

I know someone who had a look over one at one of the shows. His opinion was that “it was ok for an off-roader, but wouldn’t waste the money on a road vehicle”. I read into that it was crap and avoid it. I haven’t seen one personally, but I trust his opinion/judgement.

Just reread your thread again. I have had a dealing with the company, by placing an order for a galvanised 110 200tdi chassis. If you search for my posts, you should find it in a shielder chassis thread on here. To sum it up, I don’t have a shielder galvanised chassis, I do have my money back after getting the bank involved, I would NEVER use or recommend the company.

Many thanks for your insight and experience, I will go back to my initial thoughts of finding a second hand one and getting it re-furbed and galved. Shame though could have used shielder it as an excuse for a long weekend away.

I read this on another forum, the guy was from Scotland...

My advise to everyone is stay clear!! I've just had my second TD5 bulkhead delivered as first one was miles off! ( 7 weeks to deliver instead of 3 promised ). 2nd one delivered less than an hour ago and it's even worse!!! Waiting on Paul ( owner ) calling me bk as I want a full refund plus the Labour costs to find out the 1st one was duff!!! I'm now 2 and a half months behind on build and £1800 down. Stay away from them is my 1st hand advice.
Have a look at the gallery. Everything about sums it up. Width is out, size of vent areas are all different on each side, height is forcing my roof up nearly 20mm. It's a joke!

That is heart breaking when all the time and effort and money you spend, And you get poor workmanship.

I am still looking for a place for my series 3 to be done

I needed a replacement bulkhead, so I got a cheap used one, repaired it, got it hot dipped, etc.

I mean for the price these places are charging, I was expecting to look like new, but they look a whole load worse than my DIY one.

I guess what I'm saying is maybe consider diy'ing it?

This is something I am considering with the one I have removed. The one I’m replacing it with has some dodgy looking welds, and it doesn’t fill me with a great deal of confidence, but it seems to measure up ok, and looks relatively straight.

I’m thinking, send it off for chemical cleaning, shot blast, cut pug the rot and repair, blast, galv, and store until needed.
