After 20 odd years I've noticed my old 110 is developing corrosions 'issues' below the front air vents. I can't weld myself so can anyone recommend a good welder / LR specialist in N Wales or Chester area who may be able to help me?

are you sure its at the welding stage?

I strip back of the paint, coat of rust converter and some good primer and top coat.
Aswell as a liberal coating of waxoyl inside might be enough to keep it at bay for a few years

No - its right underneath the vents between the wipers. None of the repair panels I've seen go right across so it'll need someone to fabricate a new section. The pillars have been done already but beneath the vents there are a few pin holes developing. It looks like seal between windscreen surround and top of bulkhead has failed and water has got inside and rotting it from behind.

There is a guy in Holywell called Graham Ponton who specialises in landys. There is also Grease mnkeys in birkenhead but I havent personally used these.
Pm me if you want his details

Cheers John.
My office is in Mold so Holywell is close by. I've got a very good mechanic locally but I think this needs more of an expert welder.

Grease monkeys weldded my chassies for me, seemed ok and cheap. compared to other quotes i had had.

Went to grind out some rust below windscreen seal at weekend and ended up with two big holes! Looks as if there has been a leak in the washer fluid pipe behind the dashboard top that has caused it to corrode from the inside out. Currently having the top section of the bulk head cut away and a complete full width replacement welded in place.

OK all. Just got the Defender back from my local garage who took on the job.
Once the windscreen, dash and doors taken out / off we found the corrosion had extended to the angle welded to the top of the bulkhead that folds inwards to support the dash / air vents etc.

We got a complete new full width bulkhead repair without air vents and Stuart cut off the old top section just above the drip channel behind the bonnet back edge. He then cut the new panel to suit to save messing around with removing the brake servo etc to use all the new panel which, frankly, wasn't required.

He had to fabricate the supprt for the dash and air vents and weld this to the new panel. We also took the oppurtunity to replace all the wiper linkage which had also suffered!

Paint doesn't match up but it looks a cracking job and should last a few years!
