You will NEVER and i Mean NEVER build one cheaper than a second hand spec'd up Believe me I buy parts for 99p and still its costing lots.

Save save sell everything and then buy what you want

Hi guys - once more, thanks for the replies.

Now, i understand you lot may think it's a stupid question to ask - that doesn't worry me. I do appreciate the genuine and slightly less sarcastic advice from those of you with experience willing to help out a land rover novice.

I asked the question on the basis i doubted the possibility - but saw it as viable, i think this in itself is justified.

I do believe i'll buy a cheap Landy and work from there, however i do hope the community is more welcoming as a whole... slightly dissapointed to read such negative and narrow minded comments aimed at a beginner...

No such thing as a stupid question, just stupid answers afterall.

Anyway, cheers to those of you that helped - much appreciated! :)

You're saying fitting an engine goes from a grand to four grand......its not really true

Yeah it costs a bit more than you think it will but its not that excessive!

I'm guessing here that it depends upon the application - Large, box like 4x4 agricultural chassis versus small, relatively low-slung sporty car.... ;)

Drevil, forgive my ignorance here, but is the rest of the Landy's drivetrain upgraded? Jump into one of MGBV8's conversions, rev it and drop the clutch...and leave one or two black, smoking lines of rubber. Stock landy with 7 litre V8 and all its inherent torque, do the same and ...ooh just a guess... one or two blown diffs and a propshaft or two turned to liquorice, or gearboxes going bang??
Obviously, if it's all upgraded then ... 4 smoking tyres... LOVELY!!

This thread reminded me of a song...

Never met a caddy conversion, but i have seen few with big diesels, including6/354 Perkins:eek: Tended to be the half shafts that went first:D

Do you think he's coming back? :( Im very worried about him, i will be so upset if he dosent come back to contribute to the forum some more.

I might need consoling! :( i might cry

It's alright Ginge - i'm used to encountering keyboard warriors, the internet seems a great place for people to attempt to be confrontational and what-not.

I reckon the forum may at least be of some use.

Anyway, managed to get hold of a rolling chassis last night from a local lad whos project never took off.

Galvanised chassis to suit a 200tdi.

Cost just a few quid for sorting a veedub of his.

Lets see what we can do on a few quid then!

:D

Hes not disappeared. :high5:

Im not just a keyboard warrior, I'm a #### in real life too :D

Stick around, if this developed it will be a good build. If not, you and drivel get to have your own section for on going catastrophes.

good luck

were you lucky enough to get a V5 with it bud

or a BMW V8?

Got one lying around in need of a rebuild... tempted... It will help reduce the cost of the build although may consume that in fuel and adapters!

And yes, V5 present and ready - wouldn't touch a landy without one considering all the thefts!
