Budget Tyres

Hi all
I am after a new set of tyres,m/t, for my 90, on a budget ,got around £450.
I have 16 alloys at the mo
I `ve looked at the forum, and cant find the right reply, but just wondered if any one was up to date on deals, and if remoulds were any good,

Remoulded are fine budgets are fine, they perform just as well as more expensive tyres and last almost as long, they are much better VFM.

I am running Insa Sahara Turbos and they are great, wearing very well, great off road performance and quite(ish) on the road! You should be able to pick some up for less that £450, a mate just got a full set for £350 new delivered

For the record, Saharas are NOT quiet by any means. They are an aggressive pattern and you can definitely hear them on the road at any speed over 40mph.

Not in my Series you can't

Tis all relative.....they are quiet for an aggresive pattern, behave decent enough on wet tarmac and will get you most places off-road.

There's plenty better off-road.....and plenty more civilised on tarmac but IMO they're a good budget all-rounder if the 'all' includes tarmac miles and mud.

They are directional though so you do have to be careful you don't drive further into trouble than you can back out of.

I totally disagree, I am running them and I find them quite for an off road tyre, I'm not saying compared to a road or AT tyre but against most MT's they are quiet. No MT will compare to a road tyre noise wise...

If you look up marix tyres on eBay they seem to mimic the tread of Goodrich and insa. 4 tyres you are looking £300-£350

I had 235/85/R16 Saharas on my old 110, and they were very loud - pretty much every passenger I had in it commented or remarked on the noise.

On my current 110, I am running 315/75/R16 (35") Hankook Dynapro MT tyres (about twice the size of the Saharas!) and they are far quieter. Even at 70mph tyre noise is barely audible.

Two of my mates run Cooper Discoverer STT (mud terrains), one in 265/75/R16 and one in 37"(!!) Both sets are quieter than my Saharas were.

I also found the Saharas to be dreadful on wet tarmac, and would let go if you weren't extremely careful. Another mate who had Saharas fitted to his 88" Series 3, ended up going through a dry stone wall due to the poor wet traction offered by the tyres.

It is my opinion that they are only good for off road use, and that spending an extra £20 per corner for 'proper' tyres is a much more sensible option.

Hmmm.. well personal opinions and all that but I have found them no issue, sure they aren't as good on wet tarmac but no MT's are due to the lack of contact area with the ground. I have found them very quiet even compared to the BF Goodrich MT's that I have got sitting in my workshop. Like I say personal opinions an that but IMHO Insa's are great VFM, noise levels are low and performance is good...

look at paddocks spares you should be able to get news for that price and then have them mounted to your wheels

Mate of mine also runs Cooper Discoverer STT and I've run Insa dakars before and the coopers in particular seem really good. Did a 30 mile round trip this weekend on b roads and a touch of motorway in a 110 with coopers on and it was quiet and smooth. Very well behaved.

A mate has these, they are louder than Insa's but still well within reasonable volumes, seem to perform OK off road, takes his LWB Pajero everywhere it needs to go...

Rip off imitation of the original BFG mud terrain pattern. Same as the Insa Turbo Dakar.

Decent off road, although they do lack sidewall tread, and a mate who had them (since upgraded to Cooper STTs) found they didn't like climbing out of ruts due to that. Other than that, good all rounder and look pretty meaty!

Can't comment on the quality of the Kingpin brand though.
