When you pulled over did you notice anything and the axle /brakes that where hotter than normal ? . When you stripped down the the bearings , was the inner bearing nut tight to undo or just nipped ? . Has the brake drum got a small crack in it ( tap it with a hammer it should Ting and not thud ) .
Like Jai said take the prop off etc etc and turn the input shaft and feel for lumps etc .

Yep it was definitely the right hand rear that locked up and nothing looks wrong with the brakes or bearings there at all. I've examined the drum and shoes which all look fine, springs were fine and cylinder seems good too. There are no marks or anything as that is what my Landy guy said too and he inspected all the bits for me as a second opinion.

I haven't had the other side off yet but I'm just thinking if something was wrong with the passenger side then if diff related I suppose it's possible to cause the other wheel to lock. Or am I talking rubbish?

I'll try the suggestion of taking the prop off - I presume this is an easy job? Also, did anyone give me some pointers for removing the diff and checking that too?

Cheers

Richard

i had the same problem on a front wheel it was the bearing!it got so hot that the bearing welded it self to the stub axel i had to grind and smash the inner beaing case off and regrind the stub axel its never been the same since . get a new stub axel if this is the case as your find bearing ajusment has never been the same as the others any more . ps most likley caus un lubricated bearing due to lack of matinace or worn outer seal letting in water not good!!!!
