has anyone got a Broquet fuel catalyst in their tank? they say I should get (conservatively) 6-8% more mpg in my 110 300tdi with one fitted. what are people's experience --especially 300tdi owners?

This does actually work. Try it yourself and see. It works on the basis of filling yer fool tank with magical pebbles which peeps expect to reactict with the fool, but don't. What they're actually doing is filling the space in the fool tank so there int as much spare as before, therefore reducing the cost to fill up as yer can't get the same anount of fool in as before. The overall tank size doesn't change so yer can still use it to calculate fool economy regardless of the pebble content. The more pebbles you put in the higher the fool saving.

Thanks for the offer but I have enough already. I only ever run ma heap at 20% peddles int tank as efficiencies of above 20% are unobtainable for petrol engines. The rule of thumb is not to go above the vat rate of the fool, when calibrating efficiency. Hence 20% pebble content is the upper limit.

:cool::cool::cool: I'll bear that in mind, next time I'm loading up wiv ma pebbles, ;);););), is the efficiencies the same for Doozil, or is that a different ball game:confused::confused::confused:

Maximum efficiency for diesel is 40% but it's not as straight forward as petrol. For example red diesel can't be made more efficient as peddles don't mix with vat free fool. Hence the reason why red diesel can't be made more efficient with pebbles. Normal diesel with a vat content of 20% can take up to 20% peddles, gaining the same percentage efficiency as the percentage of pebbles. To obtain the maximum 40% diesel efficiency you need to burn all the peddble'd diesel well before claiming back the vat content. That way you bank the efficiency (20% pebbles) to ensure you don't loose it when claiming back the vat content (also 20%) on the fool. Hence the 40% saving (20% pebbles + 20% vat). A non business user can't claim back vat on diesel so they can only benefit from a maximum efficiency of 20% pebbles. Unfortunately the 40% rule doesn't apply to petrol regardless of being able to claim back the vat. :(

That's great, thanks for clearing that up Hippo;);););)

I tried a broquet fuel catalyst out of curiosity since during extensive research I found the original DTI test report, I found lots of reports of improvements from users, and lots of anti comments (but none from anyone who had actually tried one)

After my first tank of diesel in my 110 300tdi, driving as I normally would and with no other 'changes', my town MPG has gone from 26.25 mpg to 27.95. (+6.4%). I can also hear a distinct change in the engine sound - it's a much smoother sound at a lower pitch than before (I play in a band and do actually have a keen ear). I have no idea about any emission improvements though!

If there were a benefit then the manufacturer would have paid for a research lab to do some controlled performance tests, and published the results to support their product.

I agree, the last DTI test was 1992 (I have a copy of the lab report I found in my research). It would lay lots of comment to rest if they invested in more tests.

However, all I can say is on my first tank of fuel I have seen an improvement in mpg; and the only thing that has changed was inserting the broquet.

I am almost looking forward to having to pay to fill up again to see if this improvement repeats itself.

I've tried the broquet and after 3 tanks worth of diesel with no change to type or style of drving and no other changes to the vehicle I have increased mpg from 26.3 to 28.7, that's just over 9%.

In a previous life I ran a 2 litre Renault petrol estate. After two years I fitted Broquet pellets and noticed an increase in mpg but the big difference was in the emissions test when every year with the Broquet the tester commented that the emissions were incredibly low for an old, high mile motor.
I know this tale doesn't relate to a 300tdi but I do think Broquet, as a product, is good for motors.

Int it amazing how the noobies always turn up when snake oils on the go. :suspicious: Surely out of all the LZ members. someone with more than 1000 posts musyt have tried em???

How are you sure nothing has changed? Driving style? Accepted standard would be blind testing, ie the driver does not know whether the device has been fitted!
