Broken folding seat catch

Hi, I have a Defender 110 County 1997. The catch for the rear folding seat has broken (common Ibelieve). Seat is in upright position so I can't get to the screws to fix it. I've tried a hook from a wire coat hanger and long nose pliers but I don't really know what I'm fishing for.
Has anyone done this? If so Help!
