Hi all.

Yep. it did it again.

After my previous post i siliconed around the HT lead to the coil. Cleand it all out and it worked.

Well today i was driving along at 60KPH and the revs dropped then kicked in again. did this a few times within 20mins.

When i stopped at the lights i left it in drive, revs stayed at around 800 as normal. Took my foot off brake and gently went to pull away and it died. started straight away though, and off i went. Next set and I put it in nutrual and kept the revs up high, popped it in drive and lurched away.

Got to a round-about and it died when the revs went under 1000, half way round the blimim thing!!

I managed to bring all the traffic to a complete standstill. :)

Started after a couple of minutes.

ANY IDEAS??????????????? (kicking it doesn't work)

Had a similar prob with outboard on ski boat after we rolled it in heavy seas! After lots of searching found the capacitor inside distributor was soaked causing intermittent shorting. Replaced it and all was ok. maybe????

could be any thing from head gasket to a bit of smeg in the fuel line or a cracked dizzy cap.. just too many possiblities to say without having the veehick-ell at hand.

could be a vacuum leak, check the carburettor, inlet manifold and associated hoses for leaks.
fuel filter
faulty fuel pump
blocked fuel tank vent
fuel pipes restricted
carb or injection system
thats if its fuel related and not electrical

Yep thought it could be fuel problem - since the cost of fuel here has peaked again at $1.48 p/ltr it's been run down really low a few times - may have sucked up some grit out the tank!

Would a hair line crack on dizzy cause probs? will pull it off and check.

Could the coil be at fault? Any way of checking them?

any crack on yer dizzy cap will cause problems take it off and give it a wipe then just look closly at it you should be able to see any cracks, except the really small ones. you can check the coil using a multi meter.but if you get a nice blue spark at the plugs it unlikey to be that.

Hi When the revs drop does the vehicle keep going then pick back up with what seems to be more power ? ?If yes this is definately a head gasket or inlet manifold gasket problem. I had the same problem this summer with my V8. Revs drop car keeps going then picks back up and at a stop every so often quits.

oh no its not..just cos it happend to you don't mean that is the only cause of said symptoms. there are a mutitude of problems that could cause that to happen.like fuel blockage.
