Britpart/****part water pump

Just had to repace yet another Britpart waterpump after 6 months,not fitted by me,I might add.The first three of these I had fail in short time I had put down to various other reasons...now,having watched the same thing happen to my father on his R reg 300 over and over I have to face the facts that its not a random fault,bad batch,contaminated coolant or bad fitting......the pumps are consistantly ****e.

I have fitted the last few as they have been the only thing available at short notice at the time and having done the job once I didnt want to do it again.Not to mention those awful,butter soft 10mm head M8 bolts that round off when they see a spanner from 10 paces.

This time I was lucky enough to have some squeal warning,giving me time to get a genuine part.

Has anyone found a non LR water pump thats any damn good?And what experience -if any- have people had replacing those soft bolts with regular ones?

i have just replaced mine with the correct land rover water pump as i have heard of people complaining on various forums about the after market ones so i decided to pay £15 extra with express delivery and hope there is no more problems

well wadya know?? this happened to a mate with a 300tid 90. he ended up doing the same as you and getting a genuine part after the Britpart one lasted 5 months. Incidentally it may be of interest that Land Rover appear to have modified the latest pumps as the impeller is a fancy design for greater flow. I rebuilt my engine last summer and thought it a good idea to swop the water pump as it had done 146k miles, fitted a Britpart one, its been ok up to now but fingers crossed.:doh:
I did not know there had been problems at the time......

I needed one here for a race on the quick, could only get Britpart here in Spain two races and it was buggered!!!!!!!!!!!

Whilst I appreciate it was working harder than the norm an original lasted for over a year and 14 races plus many challenge events.

i've had the water pump problem, original one buggered up last year, had one fitted at the garage, buggered up after 5 months, not ****part pump, next one i fitted was ****part, lasted 6 months, the one that is on now i fitted back end of last month, it was an airtech i think, see how long that lasts.
the only things that i was told can cause regular w/pump failings is the wrong belt fitted (as one belt for the earlier 300 tdi is 15mm smaller the the late tdi) or metal swarf being dragged around the water system fooking up the main w/pump seal.

Well after the original pump failed at 90k I fitted a bearmach one, that lasted only just over 3k miles till the bearing fell apart so I went and bought a quinton hazell one from local motor factor and done over 11k since then, mind you it was nearly 50 quid. Get what you pay for in this instance.

I had a new one fitted (Britpart) which failed after less than 20 miles - bizzarre!

The Landy specialists here in France were very sympathetic and replaced with a new one immediately, no problems with the second one so far and I've done over 2k miles...

IMHO apart from the poor quality of these pumps another factor is the belt on the 200tdi has to be get quite tight because it is driving the water pump, power steering pumps and the alternator (via PSP, this adds up to quite a load and the belt will slip and be noisey the moment it gets even slightly slack, the problem on my car is worse because of the uprated alternator from 65 amps to 100.

Still no excuse for porr quality IMHO

Many, many years ago I used to work for an engineering firm and used to make triggers for nuclear bombs..............could job I did not take the same attitude eh?

But seriously, at the end of the day it's our hard earned bucks that are being thrown away, QC ia what it's all about! I don't see Britpart running back to me with a decent part along with a cheque for postage, mechanic's wages, down time and inconvenience ect, do you?

No more for me!!

sue them! - a few small claims court bills with all expenses might make them sit up.

I am fed up with Britpart, I personally have not used them intentionally for a while, but they have caused so much grief for other people on forums and clubs etc that it just makes you wonder how they stay afloat. I make it clear to Paddocks I will not buy ANYTHING from them, if any part of an order is BP.

If I order some copper washers and they come in a britpart bag I give them an inspection check they have been annealed and fit them, how wrong can they go really? Well I guess quite a few ways but I reckon they should be able to make some washers. I reckon this is the sort of things you can get away with fitting.

Studs: I got a rocker shaft pedestal stud after I had to re-tap/helicoil the head, BP was sent, had a look at it and guessed it’s probably made of plastic but we will fit it and hopefully that will be that. Few weeks ago I was putting the rocker shaft back on, torqued the nut down and without warning, like not even a slight bit of resistance yet the thing just clean snapped! Replaced it with a HT bolt with the head milled off.

They seem incapable of making water pumps, I agree with whoever said this before but it’s not just a bad batch, they CAN’T make them.

A lot of their stuff is made in China.

LRO dedicate pages worth of rebuild information for the BRITPART Defender, I wonder if they actually use BP parts in it, because if they have it will roll out the workshop fall over and catch fire.

I'm worried about how long it will last now! Oh well, at least it wasn't expensive, if it fails I will know next time to buy a better one.

I want to change the bolts when I change the pump and cannot for the life of me find where to buy them. Does anyone know a link to the right bolts or perhaps a part number for them as the pump I ordered comes with a gasket but no new bolts..?

recently bought a centrifugal fiter td5. biggest load of crap ever bought. excuse was totally as crap. m&m 4x4 who supplied me the part said it wasn,t a britpart filter must of fell out and been put into a britpart box. is that the most crap excuse ever heard. now will not buy off both of these company,s. thats the only way to deal with bad service, don,t give them any.
