Good Evening All

We have taken our 200tdi 90 for and MOT and it has failed on (break pedal has no servo assistance) they wanted to charge me 460 to replace the servo, I do all my own work on my motors but I have two questions.

1. How do they know it's the servo and not the vacuum pump and how can I test this.

2. I have never done one before I'm sure I can do it, is it quite an easy job

Thank you in advance

Sam

first off press foot hard on pedal ,hold there whilst you start engine if pedal sinks servo is working, if not remove vac hose to servo , hold your finger over the end you should feel a strong vac if pumps working (engine running), servo should only be about 70 plus vat

if you look on you tube, then there are quite a few videos which might assist.
E.G:-

Which shows you the basics.

Quite a few vids from our friends across the pond about brake servo failure and testing too. Though the yanks call a servo a booster......

Price wise, there is a new Bearmach servo on evil bay for £80 delivered. (STC442 - This part number may be wrong !!!!! )

Thanks for all your replys its been very helpful, I live near paddock spares so I tend to get everything from them, I have just found that video and almost shows from start to finish.

Again thank you and will post how I get on.

Aye, not too far from paddocks me self, - be careful round the blue box "stuff" from b r i t part..... do a search on here for folk's experience of it - IMHO, stick with a good branded part, like bearmach or, try and get OEM, price permitting....

( and post your blinking location in your user CP !!!!!:D:D:D:D:D :p )

I will have a search for the mentioned brand and look at bearmach, I'm not sure what a CP is but I have put my location in the profile. :D

It's easy, if your careful you don't even need to BREAK the hydraulic circuit for the BRAKES.

if you have any doubts about the master cylinder it would be worth changing the whole lot though

What a deal!
Bunch of thief's. I would be keen to ask for a breakdown of this cost (once you have your MOT pass and all is good) then ask them what sort of joke money that was.

Good idea - hard to see how they could justify that.... but I bet they will try (?)

I get extremely frustrated with garages charging what they like.

Gramma wise I'm dyslexic.
Never been able to spell properly so I rely on predictive text to correct me, it's not always right but near enough.

All done now MOT passed.

Thanks for the help all

Sam

All done now MOT passed.

Cool, pleased you sorted it.

Don't worry about your dyslexia - its an inconvenience, nothing more....:)

When at Uni, I had a lecturer who was dyslexic - so badly that he wrote his name on the board as...

"Weki" - only the "K" was back to front .... much muttering in the ranks, and we realised that he actually meant "Mike" - o_O oh blimey.... we ended up doing most of the board work for him - it was just easier...
