hi all, the other day my partner went on a long drive when returning the car was filthy and covered in salt from the road, since then the brakes (think from the back ) have been grinding doesnt do it all the time just usually at the beginning of a journey, car just past its mot a moth ago and had no advisorys about breaks, could this just be salt grit etc got intobrakes and they need a clean or somethiong mor sinister, brkes dont feel spongy or any difffernet
ty in advance for you help

My brakes (1.8 petrol 03 5door) sounded like metal on metal. New MOT...no advisory etc. Some 'geezer' said yer..ya pads are knackered mate and ya discs dont look too good.

So, I changed them...new discs...new pads. OK the discs werent fabulous, but the pads didnt seem to be very old at all.

However, the difference is amazing. I cant sayfor def but I think it may just be the benefit of cleaning out old brake dust and crap. Re greasing and refitting.

They might just need a good service. I changed my discs and pads in under 1 hour.
