Hi folks,

I had this problem for about week or so.

I was approaching a roundabout on the motorway after about an hour flat out 70(ish)mph and as I was slowing down, the brake pedal started shaking. Now I got three yellow lights - Traction Control, ABS and the Hill decent Warning light.

I took it to my local garage and they said at first (after a quick glance at the Freelander) that it was to do with the brake pedal switch (or something like that) so they've ordered new piece for it the next day.

Next day arrived, they've fitted the new brake pedal thingy and they said that it wasn't the fault. So they had it again overnight and looked at my Freelander and they say it my Freelander needs a new pump (brake I think it was) and a new ABS controller (think, come on, this was over a week ago now) so they've totalled the bill to over £350 inc. labour and VAT. After hearing the charge, I told them to leave it until my MOT expires (which it is in February next year).

Should I pay the £350 charge or is there something really unbelievably common and simple to fix which I've been so blind on?

do a search on here for "3 amigos" as it's commonly known. Ignore the bits about brake light switch as you've already changed that. (is it connected and set up right though ?)

Ive got the exact same problem did it get sorted. Was it the pump and controller. Anyone else had this ?

The 3 Amigos can be lots of different things - that garage were useless scumbags for simply replacing the part they thought it might be.

When they are lit, there is only 1 first course of action - to read the diagnostic codes. The lights can be on for a multitude of reasons, the code(s) will tell you what it is - then you fix/replace that.

Completely agree with above: the OP's garage clearly didn't have the necessary diagnostic equipment and were peace-meal replacing the whole system!

From the description, it sounds similar to the problem my car has - which in my case is looking to a problem with either the ABS sensor or a cracked reluctor ring on the right front.

I haven't had time yet to investigate further, but will let you know... Your best bet will be to get onto a diagnostic machine that can highlight what the fault(s) is(are).
