My 1.8 Freelander has this problem, sometimes when I brake the pedal is hard and theirs no brakes, keep foot on brake and theirs a clunk and then sharp brakes? 
ABS lights all go out as they should
But disconnected the ABS fuse underbonnet and they are fine? :wtf:
Is it something to do with abs pump?
