Does anybody have the k&n filter on a 300tdi and does it make much difference and does better discs and pads do much to stop the heavy disco any quicker
regards David

Unless doing a lot of track days in the disco I doubt there would be any noticable difference, probably not even then.

hmmmmm, track days in my 200tdi, that could really annoy some other folks :)

There are several articles on K+N filters, consensus is that they may flow better than stock air filters but the filtration is poorer. More dust and contaminants getting through, reducing engine life etc. On a road car this is not such a big problem, but on a vehicle used off road in dusty enviroments they are not a good idea. That is why I have one (filter) sat in my shed.
As for the brakes, decent pads would be my first option, after that better calipers.

Seriously, dragging that around (or even solo) you are unlikely to see any difference at all.

The only thing you might get is less brake fade with upgraded discs and pads, but I have never had a problem, even when up at the 3500kg max, in fact, the more I tow, the less I use the brakes. Lots of anticipation and using the the throttle and gearbox on approach to junctions means you can often not touch the middle pedal. If you are braking hard and long enough to get bad fade, perhaps merely adjusting driving style will be enough, and much cheaper too.

I've had one on my 300 for the past 12 years, can't say I've ever noticed it makes the slightest difference.
I'm probably better off by now not having to replace filters but to be honest I wouldn't bother with one again.

I have a K & N filter on my TD5 and certainly noticed the improvement straight away. However, the TD5 has an array of sensors to measure the influx of air and match the fuel to it.

So if the airflow increases so will the fuelling, this is not the case with TDi300.

Far better than changing the air filter is to ditch the egr, de-cat the exhaust and get a straight through middle pipe instead of the silencer. More power, easier revving, and when not driven like a loon gives better mpg .. Before all the mods I'd get ~ 220 miles for the first half tank on the gauge, just been out tonight and it's at 287 miles and not quite at halfway yet on the gauge, and that's included 40+ mils of towing, 20+green lanes and the rest all short, less than 25 miles, journeys.

Trouble is, having some power available (you know, relatively speaking I mean, its still a 300 Tdi..) you constantly keep booting it and fuel consumption drops .. ;)

Very nice booting it coming off roundabouts ... ;)

Just a thought are the brakes on the caravan ok?

Often overlooked on some larger braked trailers when folk say it stop's sh*te.!

As mentioned on the disco new brake pads and discs make sure the caliper pistons don't stick & if the caliper slides make sure it does, new fluid and a bleed is good water contamination happens all the time & goes unnoticed.
