Freelander 1 Brakes 2003 td4

My freelander 1 td4 has a problem with the brakes. Have checked the servo and pretty sure that is ok. When I brake for the first time all is ok but not brilliant. If I brake more in succession then the pedal pumps up and goes stiff as if nothing happening with the servo. My mechanic has checked hoses for leaks and found nothing. Suspect it could be the vacuum pump but will check the hoses again. On searching for a pump I cannot get one anywhere. Is there a service kit available to do myself. Seen some yt clips but not too much out there. Any help much appreciated.

It's very unlikely to be the vac pump, as they last longer than the engine.
It's most likely to be a leak in one of the many vac lines, or the brake booster (servo) diaphragm itself.

How long does the booster hold air after the engine is stopped?

I had same thing. It was one of the small vacuum hoses to the turbo that had gone porous.
Get a cheap vacuum, connect just to pump to check. About - 26 in hg if I remember OK. Then connect pipework and by elimimation find the leak.
I have a spare servo if it turns out to be that.

AS above check those vacuum hoses, i have seen this below quite a lot.

so check hoses coming from the EGR solenoid to the one way valve then onto the servo.

Thank you all for the advice it does help the confidence. I have now ordered up 3 m of hose for that reason, as when i inspected the hoses last night there were parts that had warn through the outer cotton covering and abrasions on the rubber was significant, that's without removing the air intakes so don't know what i will find once i can actually get in there to see it.
Hopefully they will turn up tomorrow and i can spend Monday working through the pipework replacing the worst areas first.
It is a slow decay of assistance. If i press the brakes once to stop driving normally it is fine , but if i press it 3 times or more say when maneuvering in a car park the pedal goes hard and i feel no assistance.
To answer Nodge68 i did not test how long the pedal was good for after turning off the engine because with pumping of 3 times it goes hard. When next looking at it i will check that. Will keep you all posted

No problem.
One more question. Do you still have the strange looking black vacuum accumulator fitted? It's just visible in picture No:3, at the bottom left of the picture.

just to give everyone an update on the brakes. i finally found some time to strip out the air intakes to have a good look, found the one going to the turbo very chafed so replaced that one but ran it round the bulkhead to the reservoir. the other one which was a shocker was the one going to the egr solenoid. this had worn right through so again was rerouted where hopefully it will not get the heat or the abrasion from other items. thanks for all your help. oh by the way i read a blog that it was 4mm id, i found that 4mm was too large so settled for 3mm which was a little difficult to get on but nice and tight. brakes are nice and responsive which is a good feeling. thanks to everyone
