83 Ser III was denied MOT cert for leaking master cylinder and servo yesterday.
Symptoms = whilst using continuing pressure on brake pedal it would slowly go down. It passed all the breaking tests.
On getting it home I could find no evidence of leaking fluid from master which I had replaced 4 months ago. There was a hissing from the servo so replaced it.
I now have 20% braking even after full bleed of system -
anyony any ideas?

If anyone wants to be a smartarse and have a pop at someone less experienced bring it on but do it in person! Mobile No available to anyone who PM's me.

Gman,
bled all four and going diagnonally wheels starting at back left etc,
was very disappointed that couldn't I fix a seemingly simple issiue.
The garage that denied the MOT are a small local garage but are not interested in my beast. I asked gaffer whether he would sort issues for MOT and I quote "I wouldn't know where to get the parts" - how ****in ridiculous is that - hasn't he had any exposure to the internet?

PS going to spoof RAC into taking it to a brilliant pair of guys in Ripley Surrey who are members of Southern LR etc. Can't recommend them enough.

thing is local motor factors just can't compete with paddocks/craddocks /bearmach or britpart.

bearmach/ britpart have local dealers- ie 4x4 garages worth seeing who is in the area

Hi,

Are you saying that your pedal feels "right", but the brakes don't work? Or that the pedal goes to the floor?

I'm not familiar with modern stuff like a S3. Where do you get your vacuum from? Pump? Or flap on the manifold? Is the flap closing?

right this will sound totally wrong and against anything we know and have been tought about brake but ....

we just had a car at work (volvo s60) (yes i know its completelly diffrent)that had a creeping pedal even though the brakes worked find
we changed the master cylinder first no change
we changed both front brake calipers no change
we changed both front flexi pipes no change
we hanged the front pads and we then had solid pedal

what we think was hapening is the pads are cheap after market crap and they were compresing slightly under persure once we fitted good genuine pads they no longer comprese so the pedal dosnt sink

have a look at the shoes you never know

i had a look at my shoes, they are black smart shoes that go well with the only suit i own........

right its a long shot but

try cracking the union off at the master cylinder then pumping the pedal a couple of times then nip it back up (if you have a dual circuit system start at the lower union...

i had a car in years ago that just wouldn't bleed i was at my wits end so i thought if fook it i'll try this.... hey presto it was spot on

everything worked fine til local MOT.
No fluid leakage apart from expected i.e. gearbox + transfer box.
Landy passed all brake tests on rolling road but when you maintained pressure on brake pedal it gradually sank towards floor. MOT man documented leaking master(replaced in April - no fluid loss) and leaking servo - it did hiss as brake was depressed.
The upsetting thing for me is that the brakes work suprisingly well, I wouldn't drive any vehicle that scared me with **** brakes. I accept that my Landy doesn't have ABS/ESP/blah blah blah - you just drive it in a way that is appropriate to it's limitations - you accept this with a Landy.
If everyone had to learn to drive in one the roads would be a safer place.
