Have changed all corners using new shoes, adjusted up and still had spongey brake, then changed master cylinder still spongey! All well bled and no fluid is going adrift, any suggestions no matter how implausible or odd will be welcome. (The 'Antichrist' is an 88'' petrol of 1976 vintage).

Thanks in anticipation, Peter.

New springs used throughout and fitted the way they was before, mind you i'm going to check now.......Cheers P.

Brake clamps on all flexy`s as close to pipe union as possible, that should give you an idea... are you sure all the air is out? they are a bigger to bleed properly...

try air in brakes, had same problem, bled, fluid hitting opposite wheel. Got a syringe and some pipe and drew out loads of air --really slowly. after spending 300 quid in a garage to try and cure it-they did all you have done.

A suggestion I picked up from this forum was to squeeze the wheel cylinders in, I used a ratchet strap around the brake shoes tightened it up then opened the bleed screw let the air out done up the bleed screw went round all wheels doing that then bled them as normal. Be careful tightening the ratchet as I managed to break the adjusting post on the brake shoe. Alternatively you could use some large "G"clamps. It worked for me. Good luck I know it gets frustrating.

Have you used one of the £70/80 kits to do all the wheels? They are a load of ****e,
my series 3 stops well and has a "good Peddle" I have used O/E cylinders and Mintex shoes with new flexi hoses. Had no trouble bleeding and been good for three years now. Britpart adjusters are not worth the time fitting so if you need to replace them find a different make.

As has been said air gets caught in the cyl due to crap LR design so you either need a vac bleeder on a compressor to draw it out of the pocket or compress pistons whilst bleeding to close up the air pocket.
They need to be properly adjusted too. Cheap seals last weeks apparently so genuine lr if you can afford it!
