changing front pads and one of the two pistons has come out too far and won't go back in,anyone any idea how to get the piston back in with out removing the caliper. it's a td5 90 2001. typical, simple job turns into an epic again.

pry bar and maybe crack the bleed nipple

cracked the nipple still no joy, can't get a pry bar in the gap the piston is almost on the disc, managed a screwdriver but that was useless but it worked fine on backs and the other front pistons. I think it's going back at an angle. I did not want to give it too much welly in case i damaged the disc or caliper.

make sure you put the pad in the other side of the caliper. try two screwdrivers opposing to even pressure and a bit of brake fluid to lube it

Just make sure you are pushing it back square and there isn't any corrosion or muck around the piston. If it goes back in at an angle (or worse, it DOESN'T go back in at an angle) you will damage the seals.
I hate to ask but how did you manage to push it out too far, you didn't press the peddle when there was not pad in the caliper did you?
