Not long had my 86 defender 2.5 diesel, its drove and stopped fine, when i bought it there was some oil around the vacum pump, so today i decided to clean it off with brake cleaner on my lunch break, got in it to come home and the pedal seems alot harder and the brakes dont seem as sharp? Any ideas?

no vac from pump reaching servo did you knock/disturb pipe ,probably pretty brittle by now ,other reasons could be hole in servo diaphragm or vanes in vac pump stuck ,dont run engine long with pipe off vac pump as it fills engine with air

Never touched anything just sprayed brake cleaner around the put to clean the oil, if the gasket on the vac pump was shot would that cause it to do the same? Is it a big job to remove the vac pump?

So not a big job then? Some landy bloke by me said on the phone its a specialist job due to it controlling the timing? When i cleaned it with brake cleaner there seemed to be some sealent around it so i just assumed it may of drawn some air in?

no he was talking ****e ,it does sit and run from same place as injection pump on 2.25s did or dizzy on petrol ,but removal wont effect timing in any way ,vanes get stuck and possile it does leak around top plate

Its just weird how its felt different since cleanin the crap off, will have a proper good look tomorow, thanks for the help, hopefully it wont keep me off the road long
