I will be out in the Landy later and with the snow and ice round ours at the mo, I can assure you I won't be relying on anything other than my gears to keep me on the straight and narrow.
Though my new mud terains don't seem to be particularly good for that unless they have 2 foot of snow to chew through. Didn't realise they would be so crap on thiner snow/ice. My half bald road mitchelins were a lot better.

Possibly because they have twice as much tread in contact with the ice.. try deflating ya muds to about 20psi. then see how they manage :doh:

Yeah, already done that and they are a bit more forgiving for it.
Gues you can't get away with being lazy with these tires. Got to keep the compressor at the ready and keep adjusting the pressures to suit the conditions.

Never let them down to less than 15psi or they're likely to pop off the rims.

Got to keep remembering to blow em back up again before setting off down the road with the trailer on as well.

By the by just edited my first post. Realised it probably sounded like I'd been freewheeling 2 tone trailers down hills everywhere. Which of course I haven't only untrailered and unlaiden generally (but not any more).
Ok I can see why folk may have got a bit upset

Just to be clear, I thought the mintex brake pads were a descent enough make. Is this the case or should I be fitting something else?

i would try the same brand of pads all round then drive it and see if they are all similar in heat and odour, mismatched pads arent going to make diagnosis easier, are they?

and as for banter vs abuse, they class as almost the same thing on here and if you keep spitting the dummy and claiming you have dragged more trailers than anybody on here etc etc etc you really are going to get some serious banter/abuse (you choose, i know)

so new pads all round, they aren't expensive if you are using mintex and try again, oh and keep that dummy firmly clasped between the teeth, you are in danger of sounding like a dick head if not.

Some good advice there OP. Looking through your original post again I would check the calipers/pistons are all ok and not binding or sticking.
