Any ideas how I can free a stuck front brake drum on my 1980, 109?

I've tapped all round the outer edge and around the bolts, but it just does not want to move.

Sods law the other front drum can off with just a few light taps. I need to change the brake shoes ahead of the MOT.

Have you backed the adjuster right off?

Then stomped on the brake pedal VERY HARD a dozen times?

Don't use a steel hammer - get a wooden mallet.

Make sure WHY it is stuck. Is it RUST on the studs and hub, or brake shoes catching the lip on the drum, or both?

Diagnosis before violence ....

Do you have an oxy-acetylene welder?

Or a fast hot butane or propane blowtorch?

Fit your jacking screw and tighten it a bit so it is undder a bit of compression.

HEAT the flat spaces between the wheel studs very hot as quickly as you can, all five spaces in turn, and use the mallet to whump the rim of the drum as you heat.

Be patient ... it will come off.

Copper grease will guarantee you won't need to do this again.

All of the above plus there is a small threaded hole on the drum in to which you screw a screw and jack the drum off the hub.
Sorry i cant remember the thread size but I'm sure you can find something.
Don't know the thread size, but use one of the 3 slot head screws that hold the drum on. There was some thought went into designing Land Rovers!
