Hi Everyone

Had to pop in to the specialist today and while I was there, they very kindly freed off the binding rear break calliper, the pistons were badly corroded and Dave the mechanic told the fix would not las long.

Looking at the prices for new callipers I noticed the OEMs are £100 and the Brit parts are 33.00!!

What is everyone's opinion on the quality difference of these items given the huge variation in price?

Many thanks

Ash

Well I have not used the Britpart one's (although have been very satisfied with other gear I have had from them) I cannot give specifics. However the calipers supplied by them MUST be suitable and compatible / comparable with original equipment so even if they don't last as long as OEM at a 3rd of the price you can afford to do then nearly 3 times !!

I would definitely go with the Britpart personally

Agreed, Britpart parts can be rubbish, but as brake calipers are pretty low tech run of the mill things I'd expect even Britpart to get them right. I aim to replace all four of mine with Britpart calipers as preventative maintenance when the weather warms up a bit.

Just this week replaced both front calipers with britpart ones, although they were orderd through adventure 4x4, they looked good qaulity for the money. £56 for the pair , deliverd next day.

Greetings, I've just registered and have a 1986 90 but with '91 200tdi and I suspect running gear as it's discs at the rear. Does anyone know how many different types of calipers are used with solid discs on these vehicles and what is interchangable. Will Disco ones fit, are there that many differences? I really want to replace discs, pads and calipers but don't want to end up with the wrong kit in stock? Many thanks, Paul

This is the Range Rover section, if you have a 90 you need the tratter section:rolleyes:

So sorry, I'll go round to the tradesman's entrance right away whilst doffing my cap and backing oorf subserviently - han hoi fought hit wuz habhut kalipurz - choze 'ow ruf hoi ham.

Many thanks Wammers,
I tend to avoid forums simply because of the anti-social ineptitude of just a few and it can bring out the worst in me.
I really need some simple technical help, sadly those who seem to respond really have nothing to say ............ I've checked out the 90 area (starting to find my way round now) and it seems somewhat the same there. Usually people who say everything other than the answer to the question asked. Even Land Rover owners represent a good cross section of society, that's quite sad!

I know this is the posh section but I'll post anyway to help a fellow Defender owner! There are two types of calliper for solid discs, you should have a single brake line to each calliper, some other systems have two lines. I'll back away now and return to a less refined section of the forum...

Perhaps those people don't know the answer to your question and light heartedly try to point you in the right direction :)
