Recently bought a Discovery TDi 1996 and although this isn't a problem, I would be grateful for any opinions on what it might be .............
Some previous owner has made two electrical modifications which may, or may not, be related.
A new wire has been run directly from the ignition switch (the yellow wire that gets 12v once the ignition is switched on.) to the stop solenoid on the fuel pump.
Another wire has been run from ground (chassis earth) via a push-button on the dashboard to the water temperture sender. Pushing the button with the engine running at anything over about 1500 rpm seems to drop the revs by about 100 rpm and there's a click from a relay somewhere as well !
I suspect both wires were put in at the same time as they are both exactly the same gauge and colour so presumably off the same reel.
I could guess that the first wire might just be to bypass a faulty connection in the original engine-stop circuit - solenoid gets 12volts until the ignition is switched off, but ........ what could the other wire do, and why is there a push-button on the dash ? Might it be some electrical way of keeping the EGR valve closed as I know that is somehow linked to engine temperature.
I have the Haynes manual, but it's not clear with this year / variant which IS fitted with EGR kit but doesn't have the "fly by wire" electronic engine control.
Previous owner had no idea as it was fitted prior to him. I'm not worried, just curious !!
Cheers,
David.
