nrg,i saw a drip stove like yours on a canal narrow boat on ebay the other day.:D
having a major issue atm with it. the oils like crude and wont gravity feed into it.
dunno if its the temperature or the fact its unknown stuff thats been tipped in the waste oil containers.
tho the bits of gasket I fished out of it wont be helping. reckon there might have to be some quality control measures for future oil changes.
like a sieve!

do know its bleddy messy tryin to sort it out tho

nrg - anything to do with the fact that synthetic and mineral oils don't like each other and turn to gunk...or is that just when subjected to engine temps and pressures?

Do you not strain it first or leave it to settle out and take from 'not the bottom' ? ....

strain it
it wouldn't even go thru the diaphragm pump this morning it was so thick.
tried emptying the resovoir cos I thought it was blocked. pipework between resovoir and first ball valve is 20mm od pneumatic pipe, between ball valve and burner is 1/4 bsp.
its a bit of a learning curve, but would appear used cold oil don't flow too well. (unless its spilled on the floor, then it seems to flow everywhere.)

need to get some more primary air holes in it, and relocate a smaller resovoir closer to it so it'll warm the oil enough to set a drip.

anyway, in answer to your question, the resovoir tapping aint at the bottom, and it aint strained. its also the last 6 months or so of waste product so quite possibly has brake fluid and water in too.
not really helped meself have i

If its anything like that stuff in Daves diff last night I'm not surprised it wont burn

Perhaps have two waste container, one for clean oil and one for the contaminated stuff.

Or you could just let me do the oil changes and go back to the oil and sawdust stove :D:D
