Hello....

bought some bull bars at the newbury 4x4 show today.. £20 quid, so not bad at all...

got home and hold it over the front and they are too far forward?
what i mean is there's loads of room between the defender front and the bull bar?

is it supposed to be like that?

the bumper is just like this one, but I think maybe the bars that are bolted to the bumper should be straight and not with a slight bend forward?

They're like that so ya can get some big driving lamps on the front. too close and they dig into the grille

If ya don't want em Robint will swap you for a tubular Aframe that sits on top of the bumper.

dont have a clue... I noticed it fits the defender, and for 20 i bought it..

but even if its one for the one with Aircon, are the defender wings on the one with aircon longer than without aircon?

Nope. ?? but it needs more airflow cos of the aircon rad in front of main rad.

better then sticking forward more as mine has now been pushed back into the bonnet and front wings - also breaking my hella spots - should have learnt the first time i pushed a disco out of trouble but did the same again today!!!

A friend from uni has a bull bar fitted to her 90, on the ice she went into the back of her boyfriends 90 which has a spare wheel on the back door, the bull bar folded back onto the bodywork needing: new bonnet, slam panel, wing, bumper and bull bar..

there fecking ugly on a fender anyway..unless its a farmers fender

yes... but it cost me £20 instead of 200 for a fancy posh tubular one...
and the bull bar just offers an extra protection, for 20 i think its worth, not really bothered if it looks pretty or not, its a Defender....not a Merc/bimmer/jag/ferrari, they'll never look pretty no matter what you bolt on to them :D

I'll have to take pics and post here...
They do stick out a bit! I think the bull bar is roughly 8 or 9 inches away from the bonnet....

I have a similar bull bar on mine except my bracket for bolting to the fender is different. Yours bolts on the top and the front, whereas mine just bolts on the top, to give you an idea of the distance between the front of the Landy and the bull bar (ignore the black straightedge )

Well...

i've fitted the bull bar... does this look right?
and notice that I havent put the bolts on the front... when I just put the bullbar flat on top of the bumper, it was too much forward, but now as Ive fitted it I've only put the top bolts... I reckon once I fit the front bolts and tighten them up it will pull the bullbars forward.... or should I add some spacers in the gap between the front bracket and the bumper?

here's the gap..should I add some spacers in there, to stop it pulling the bullbars forward?

what do you guys think? Im not too sure if I like all that space between the bar and the front....

I can see what you mean when bolted down it will go forward... pad it out with spacers so it it vertical. However...... before you do that I think that this is a modification that you should/have to declare to your insurance company. If you say nowt and have a bump you could find yourself not covered by insurance. Dont take a chance...

If your going to keep it I would fit some bolts on the front side, otherwise if it does get bumped the rear mounts will mostly likely just bend and it will end up in the bodywork.

I see what you mean about the gap from the body though.

If you put a washer on each of the bumper bolts between the bumper and bull bar that will prevent the mounts being bent all over the place if you bolt it on the front (it should sit flush on top of the bumper).

As for the debate on impact damage, if its been securely fitted and gets pushed into the bodywork, then in the majority of cases I cant see how the vehicle could come off any better without one.

exactly my view!

Ok, looks like everyone agrees that some washers between the bumper and bullbar will do the job...

I have the same bar on mine and packed the bottom bolts out about 15 mm with washers. I just kept adding washers until I was happy with it.
