So i took it too a garagre and here is what they told me.

1. NS rear brake disc corroded and bellow min. advise replace both rear discs
2. both front brake discs worn bellow min 22mm disc thickness 19mm.
3. OS rear axle brake pipe corroded at caliper.
4. OS front chassis cross member damaged and split.
5. main fuel filter housing corroded and leaking.
6. both rear half sharts and drive members badly worn
7. OS front drive member worn
8. NS front hub bearing noisy may require new CV joint and drive member on stripping due to corrosion.
9. OS rear shocker noisy.
10. Front brake pads at limmit.
This vehicle may need new callipers when discs are replaced due to corroded pistons.
AND THE DIFF IS NOT WORING TO

Big thanks to Inverness 4x4 for doing the report!

How much did you pay for it, doesnt look too much wrong with it that a days spannering won't sort.

Not sure what you mean by "diff not working" but all the other stuff is pretty routine wear and tear. Sounds like the previous owner sold it rather than do any maintenance:( If you can wield a spanner yourself you should have it good as new for a few hundred quid:)

i asked the to do a report on the car.

i paid £6610 for it and thy put a years mot on it in te condition it was in.
and at that sort of money you dont expect to have a days spannering.

Here's me thinking it was a £800 eBay motor - even at over 6K it might have been bargin, but we do'nt know what it is.

I have to say if I'd coughed up six grand for a motor I'd expect it to be right, especially if I'd bought it from a dealer. They've clearly just written out the MOT ticket without bothering to check if it was in a passable condition too. I'd have something to say to them I think:( I also thought you were talking about a few hundred quids worth not six and a half grand.

I think the orginal poster should name and shame the garage from where he brought it, but if it was a 2 year old motor it still might be worth the money - even with a dodgy MOT.

it sure would be a dodge mot if it was 2yr old

but it is a 2001. and from a deler at 6600 there should be no spaners involved

Which dealer did it come from - so we can all avoid them, but there is a standard dealer contract that does stipulate "sold as seen" so maybe the buyer didn’t checkout the vehicle properly first. There is often an Implied Warranty of Fitness with all sold goods but it's more likely that good old caveat emptor will more likely apply in this case.

i think yu will find that from a trade supplier (as distinct from private seller) the item has to be "fit for purpose" and be roadworthy. wtf is Retz when yu want him. Try PM'ing him.

Things might have changed in the last 6 months, but i've deffo brought vehicles from trade on a "as seen basis" - these are quite often part exs that they have taken in that they just want rid of without having to do works on them which may be required to bring them upto their normal standards.

Bloke across the roads 20 odd year escort got bumped the other day by a 75 year old who didnt want to have to take the test again (apparently you have to do that if you claim on insurance) so he offered to buy the bloke another car - local ford dealer had just taken in an s reg escort with 20K on the clock one lady owner as part ex and sold it to him "as seen" for £200 inc full MOT and tax! - asked him to pick my lotto numbers as it musta been his lucky day.

If he tells the MoT Test people they will retest the car and he will get his money back and the garage will get a smacky botty

Trades Descriptions ..... not fit for purpose .... and NO WAY should that have been given an MoT Cert.

Shop them ...... or phone them up to say your lawyer is about to speak to the MoT people.

Get in touch with your local trading standards people. The vehicle should be fit for purpose and also you should be able to ask for your full money back insideof a reasonable period of time(usually 3 week is acceptable period of time).Threaten to take them to the small claims court, that should put wind up them although you can also do this for a small amount of dosh.
I got ripped by a dodgy furkin dealer on a 3.9 range rover classic,I did all of the above and was awarded the case, the trading standards also chased the bastrd but he has done a runner and I cannot locate the ****er in this country.Cost me about £130 in court fees and £3000 lost in a scrapper

On your MOT certificate it will tell you if an advisory notice VT32 was issued along with your VT20, if you did not recieve this when you picked up the 110 you can ask for a duplicate, this may show the items that have now been reported.
BUT 1/ leaking fuel is a definate fail
2/ brake pipe corrosion is a "grey" area as it is open to the testers own interpretation to the extent of penetration of rust into the pipe, but corroded brake pipes should at least be advised
3/Front x member can only be failed if there is a steering or suspension component mounted to it within 300mm, but it should be advised.
4/ Brake disc thickness is not an item that can be measured for MOT but only on testers experience.
5/ Brake pad minimum thickness for MOT is 1.5mm, anything near that is an advise.
6/ Front wheel bearing cannot be failed for noise only for roughness or excessive play, but can be advised.
On the back of your MOT certificate it tells you the procedure for lodging a complaint, I strongly urge you to go down this route.

it says there was no advisorys on the mot

Would suggest to take it back to the steeler with the report and tell them to put right or you will take it further with the DOT and also Trading Standards, if they are a member of a regulatory body then also worth getting in touch with them.

Oh and tell us who it was so we can all avoid them and put a dent in their sales figures
