Hi guys, just bought a 97 Disco S1 ES V8 on Gumtree and I'm as happy as a pig in.....! It's a Jap import with 55,000 miles (hopefully) and having previously had a string of middle aged, male owners, its been well looked after, has loads of service history/receipts (not in Japanese) and its in OK condition. Whilst it sailed through its last MOT, I know it's gonna need work ( and I'll also need some guidance) and I just hoped to say hi! Thanks Martin.

Welcome chap :) part and parcel of having a Landy is in the majority of cases the wife hates it....welcome to our world !

As above, get the chassis protected ASAP. Personally I used Dinitrol which is a better product than Waxoyl but don't leave it over the winter unprotected if you're going to use it. One winter is all it needs to cause problems !

Thanks guys, I'll get the chassis checked out and given the once over. Fortunately all appears well, but if there are any other pointers/advice that you can offer then I'd appreciate the heads up! Have a good weekend

The biggest issue with any Landy is rust / corrosion, and they're the most expensive to get sorted. Start there and make sure any issues on that front are dealt with, and you won't go too far wrong.

Hi Buddy what part of Glasgow are you in. V8 nice
Ive just bought a disco 1 project as well bought as a non runner abandoned project = headache lol

Welcome btw
cheers Kev ;)

Hi Kev, I'm in Bishopbriggs......are you local? Sat in last weekend looking at Defenders on Gumtree (that were asking silly money) when I seen the ad, viewed it Monday and it was home for Friday. Being an import (and due to its age), I've got some concerns on the condition of the chassis, but taking steps to get this assessed . How's things going with your motor...have you got a lot of work in front of you??

Aye its going great I'm missing a few things but the main thing was to get it running
to see what ive got, now its running I need to sort the brakes so I can move it about
then I will do the electrics & I'm not happy with the paint job so I will do that too lol

I'm down at Faslane ;)

Good man, looks like you've still got plenty to do....Checked out your "project" and it looks like an awesome bit of gear and far from standard...! Here's hoping you get it running soon. I've just booked in the motor with Brian at Gem 4x4 (up at Camelon), so hopefully she gets a clean bill of health, enough undercoat to prevent any future problems and I'm sure that he'll keep me on the right track. Have a good week

Hi Martin
I used to live in Torrance-just down the road from you in Bishopbriggs!! I used to work in the BMW motorcycle shop on the main road-don't know what it is now. Used to run a Bobtailed V8a Range Rover for off-roading.
Now live down near Kilmarnock and just sold my Disco2 v8 auto and bought a Freelander v6 auto which I'm gradually doing up to do some off-roading.
I left Torrance in 2014.

Good to speak to you...unfortunately Motorrad is now a 24 hour gym, inundated with middle aged punters, sweating there asses off in lycra.....pretty it ain't, but that's (supposedly) progress....!! Hope all goes well with the Freelander and if I'm ever "out and about" in deepest, darkest Ayrshire, then I'll give you a shout!
Have a good day mate!

Looking good mate....I take you've had them both under sealed...?? As I said I'm goin to get the Disco done and I understand that there's a guy in Johnstone (preserve and protect) that's cleans, treats andcoats the underside in Dinitrol. Any experience/thoughts on that???

Dinitrol is the gear to use much better than waxoil. I do all my vehicles myself just steam clean the underside
& blow out with a compressor or leave to dry for a while spray into all the cavity's using a schutz gun & a longer
tube for the inner chassis, my defender isn't done it has a new galvi chassis, the disco was done by the last owner
its quite messy to use but very satisfying to see it looking all spanky & new :D
How much do they charge for this service??
I used to be the manager in Strathclyde Tyres in Johnstone (10 years ago)Bandit country lol but I don't know these guys ;)

£600-£650....which I know ain't cheap Kev, but reports for this guy seem favourable, he appears to be Dinitrol's "affiliated" treatment centre in/around Glasgow and he seems to have good feedback. Regardless of the cost I'm keen to get this sorted ASAP and I think that the missus would marry me, just so she could divorce me, if I started hanging out the bottom of the motor spraying Dinitrol round the drive....! Come to think of it that might not be the worst idea....!! M
